The school is now 6-8th and called Lakeridge Jr High (not Waluga). New Principal came in from West Linn in 2012. Lots of change happening to adjust to middle school model. Teachers are experienced and know + like junior high kids. The 6th grade teachers seem especially strong as they've chosen to "do the new thing". We've found science teachers and English teachers to be excellent. Some math teachers are great. Spanish teacher isn't great and drama teacher doesn't do musicals - she writes her own plays the kids perform. Schedule is odd: some days the kids have all 7 classes; other days they have 3 or 4 but more time per class. Overall a good place that leads to a great high school.
Great teachers with a strong focus on student success. Parents are highly involved with students and supporting the school. No crime or violence. Outanding programs for the kids.
I'd like to respond to the comment about the after school activities. The drama teacher is only paid to do one show a year. I know how many hours she puts in for what she earns and my babysitter is better paid. This year nearly 60 kids were involved in the production. My daughter really enjoyed the art club and after school sports. We had a great experience there both during and after school.
I really enjoyed my educational experiance at this school, though the after school activities were dissapointing. The drama teacher only does 1 small cast show(10-20 kids) a year, while an avarage of almost 100 audtion. I have been told by my directors that I am one of the most talented students they have ever worked with, and I was still not cast because I never had a perfect match with any of the characters.
Has a 'one size fits all approach'. Staff can be quite condescending with parents at times. My child likes the school however reports being a 'lot more bored' than in elementary school!
Not very challenging for bright student. Feel teachers are not enthusiastic about teaching. Disappointed in academics for being 'top school' in Portland area.
School is okay. Some teachers who have been teaching at the school for some time cater (and are motivated) to teach 'A/B' students. It is easy for the average or less than average student to 'fall through the cracks.' Communication with teachers must be initiated by the parent or you will simply be left uninformed. This is due to too many students and not enough teachers. I am disappointed with the quality and enthusiasm of some teachers. As the parent of other well-educated children, I am aware of what quality education should look like.
