Grandhaven Elementary School is one of the top performing schools in the district and the state. We earned 'Outstanding' status according to the Oregon Department of Education. Grandhaven School is truly a 'grand haven' for staff, students, and parents. Great parental support, awesome, dedicated teachers, and caring, nurturing classified staff. A great place, a 'grand haven' for everyone.

I have three sons that attend Grandhaven a 3rd grader a 2nd grader and a Kindergartener. Most of our experiences with Grandhaven have been excellent, with the exception of one teacher. Every other staff member I come in contact with is loving and caring and willing to listen to anything you have to say. They are very dedicated to helping our children in any way they can even when that means extra work for the school staff, they don't seem to mind. The Principal Mrs. Johnson is very easy to talk to. She really understands the children and tries to get to the bottom of problems instead of just disciplining them and then sending home or back to class. Of course there is still discipline but I think it is very fair and well thought out.

I have three children that attend Grandhaven Elementary. Overall, I have been happy with the teachers and school. I am a regular volunteer and find that the office staff are very friendly and helpful and if ever I have a problem I feel I have an open forum to discuss any issues. The teachers are very grateful for parent volunteers and are flexible if you have younger children you need to take with you to volunteer in the classroom. I would like to see more afterschool activities for the children, more clubs and sports to be involved in, etc. Funding cuts makes this almost impossible. But I feel that's what's missing the most at Grandhaven.

About the tests

In 2009-2010 Oregon used the Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (OAKS) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in reading and math; in grades 4, 7 and 10 in writing; and in grades 5, 8 and 10 in science. The OAKS is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Oregon.
