My daughter was in 2nd grade last year and her teacher failed her completely. She decided that the kids were not going to have homework because she "Didn't want us confused". It's 2nd grade! Send home the instructions and we wouldn't. When I was reading with my daughter and she kept saying the wrong word, ie what for where, etc.., when she had learned that sight word before. I asked the teacher and she said reading is just prediction anyway. NOT in 2nd grade! The kids need to learn the proper words they are reading. All the other 2nd grade classes had homework I found out, not my daughter's. So they are behind all the other students now. The principal is a joke also. My daughter had major health problems last year where she missed 16 days of school all year. Half where they had me come and get her due to pain or illness. The principal was mad because all she cared about was the funding, not my child. The head secretary is pretty rude also but the other secretary truly cares about the children. I believe I am open enrolling my child to another school after what we went through last year. It was truly ridiculous!!

Great teachers who care and strong in academics. Needs more parental involvement but they try. Parent-Teacher group helps raise money and meets monthly. Needs to have regular art and pe, but district needs to pay for it so not the school's fault. The teachers are hard working and do what they can despite lack of funding in those areas.

About the tests

In 2009-2010 Oregon used the Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (OAKS) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in reading and math; in grades 4, 7 and 10 in writing; and in grades 5, 8 and 10 in science. The OAKS is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Oregon. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.
