My family LOVES this school!! Our son is a graduate who easily adapted to college level work (much to our surprise) because of the academic program at the high school. Our daughter is in her 7th year here and the support and sense of community is very special. We have been at the school long enough to see how very student-centered the entire staff is and the contextual learning emphasis provides a more rounded and thorough education. I can not recommend this school enough - I have seen many touched and changed student lives. I am so sorry for the experience the family below relates, but details related are not completely accurate. The principal mentioned below offered to resign when the economy collapsed and the school had to make cutbacks, and the principal after him was was great and hands on - he moved onto a great non-profit medical outreach organization and is still there. Your student will not be lost in the crowd, but encouraged and valued by a great staff.
My son was there for first grade, and we loved the teacher as well as the principal. We found the librarian abrasive and found out later she had been changed from being the first grade teacher when families left because of her yelling at their children. When we got into the second grade they had only 6 students yet the teacher managed to let he students fall more than a grade level behind the school where we ended up transferring our son. If you can not manage to bring 6 students ahead, you should not be teaching. The principal they let go was wonderful and the one they replaced him with really only wanted to be in politics, which showed. He left not too much longer after we did, 2/3 of the way hrough the year. My son couldn't be happier and is learning much more NOT being in this school but being in a more well run school that feels more like a family.
i go to this school. its very small but very good.
I absolutely love this school! PreK through 12th education that is hands on, contextual, relevant, balanced, and focused on the development of the whole person. Children are taught to be good students, friends, citizens, family members, employees, etc. Programs such as outreach days, where students spend an entire school day out in the community doing service (collecting food for F.I.S.H., beautifying parks, doing maintenance for those who aren't able to keep up themselves, spending time in soup kitchens and rest homes, etc. build character. These kids learn about local and world politics, how to buy and maintain a house, and have real discussions about the meaning of dating, and what they want in a future spouse, in addition to all the standard classes. They go on field trips all the time, both in the community and around the world. But the most impressive thing about this school its focus on relationships.
