The administration are excellent and although the economic times are challenging for all schools, I feel my daughter is recieving a great education. Her International Baccalaureate classes are interesting and challenging. Her teachers are overworked, but they care about students and try hard to help them learn.

We have alot of opportunities at this school, even though it's small. I love it. :)

newport high is a very friendly school. the teachers are always trying to encourage us and help us in any way they can. they also try to keep us involved with activities at the school such as sports, clubs, and just plain school spirit.

A hopefully great school for my children. It seems nice and everything, but badly hit by the recession. Still it is thriving and has lots of great lunch clubs! and an IB school. IB is the best AP courses you can recieve and is sometimes treated as your first year of college at some schools if you get the diploma!

As a graduating senior from Newport, over the years, I have felt that the staff have been truly supportive, and very friendly. The students, while some have their quirks, are all in all pretty nice kids, and our principal, Mr. Jon Zagel, really does his best to make every student feel welcome and he is very willing to spend his time helping students and their families. The only true issue that I have with the school is their grading system. They use an online system called Pinnacle, which doesnt get updated very often, and can be quite innacurate, leading parents to believe that their students are not doing so well, when, in all factuality, they are. However, I have found that the school is supportive in that the staff are more than willing to help provide more accurate information, and also help/info to the parents as well.

I read the comment from January 26th and I don't agree with the comment made about newport High. There are a lot of good qaulities at the school and it has great teachers! Nobody is held back to a lower level of learning if they are capable of taking more challenging classes. You can take online classes if the classes at the school are not up to your standards and also classes through Oregon Coast Community College earning dual credits through Newport High. At this time the college classes are paid for by the school. Funding is cut everywhere and the district has a lot of challenges it has to face along with all the other public schools. There are a lot of great parents that volunteer there also! I do agree that it would be nice if more could step up and help a little.

I think that the school's redeeming quality is the staff. The teachers at this school are intelligent, up-beat, fun, and know how to push their students to their full potential. Being a smaller high school, it allows the staff to get to know each student as an individual, and the student has the advantage of being able to acquire one on one time with a teacher. Over all, even with budget cuts, the staff in general makes it worth being a student here.

Our budget was bad before, but it has gotten even worse. I grew up outside of the LCSD, and comparing those schools (even in Oregon) against Newport High is an absolute joke. What is considered grade level in Newport was middle school level in the past schools I've been to. Almost all the elective have been cut, everyone trashes the school, and the quality of education is laughable, yet better than the surrounding schools here.

I was a student at newport high last year and I believe the school is efficient in getting kids where they need to be. They area always encourageing us to do better and will set up private meeting if extra helpy is needed. Although money is hard to find! Teachers are droping like fly's and books and new resources are needed. The students that have attended Newport high are respectable and more than willing to except new students. As stated befor all schools have they're problems but we get through ours just fine.
