I've been a student at this school ever since the 2nd semester of my freshmen year, I am now a junior. This school means a lot to me. Yes, the staff do care about the image and welfare of this school but that's so we can keep OCSLA up and running. We have to get our charter renewed about every 4 years and how the outside sees us means a lot and so does the money to keep us running, we don't get funds like regular high schools. Teachers do care a lot about their students and build special bonds with them. This is a very unique school and tight knit. This is not an easier school but a different one. I'm thankful for all the opportunities, staff, intern program, and school overall.

The Oregon City Service Learning Academy is not an alternative school. Rather it is a district charter high school. Students are required to intern two days per week in the community and it is very important that student's who choose to enroll in OCSLA understand that they represent both the school and the district when they are out in the community. There are high expectations for behavior and attitude.

The faculty is below par. Though it is an alternative school and warrants some heightened disciplinary action, they are overly strict. The teachers don't seem to care about individual student needs, only the welfare of the school as a whole, the school's IMAGE to the public.

About the tests

In 2009-2010 Oregon used the Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (OAKS) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in reading and math; in grades 4, 7 and 10 in writing; and in grades 5, 8 and 10 in science. The OAKS is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Oregon. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.
