Great Schools is totally off base and misleading when it takes PPS district numbers and indicates how much a school spends per student. The implication is that this is the money available per child. While it is no where near this amount on a per school level , it is even lower for public charters. The district intentionally obfuscates their financial reports and co-mingles dollars for IEP and other programs that are supposed to be spent by law on particular students. I served on a site committee in a district with schools consistently rated among the highest in Oregon by all educational measures. They spent only slightly more per student on a total cost basis but I could track every dollar in the budget and how it impacted the students. Programs and services were in the schools and not at the district level! Meanwhile none but district insiders can decipher a PPS budget report. I doubt that most members of the school board can.
