Spectacular school with an amazing, caring staff. We are so lucky to have dedicated professionals teaching in a little neighborhood which happens to have a lot of socio-economic challenges. The public school system is a promise of opportunity and equity for everybody. Mill Park Elementary is a fulfillment of that promise and an example of just what the public school system, in genera, should be striving for.
The school uses a school wide Positive Behavior System and monthly focuses on character skills (respect, cooperation, self control...) to teach, model, and encourage positive behavior. Students of the week, month, and quarter are recognized for their exemplary behavior.
Teachers work in teams and with coaches to ensure that their teaching is top notch. They have ongoing training on best practices as well as Common Core standards. They use Learning Targets to focus student learning and engagement strategies to make sure that all students are meeting their potential.
As a long time teacher at Mill Park, I have always felt incredibly lucky to work with such an amazing, caring, dedicated, and innovative staff. Mill park students are very diverse and our staff works hard to differentiate for all learners and be culturally sensitive. As a member of our districts Science Team, I know that teachers are working hard to understand the Common Core Standards and make sure that our curriculum is aligned to them. I would feel incredibly lucky to have my own child in any one of the classes here at Mill Park!
Very unprofessional faculty, all the way up to the principal. The change in this school from 2014-2015 vs 2015-2016 has been awful. We have never had so many problems from one school, EVER!! Teachers seem very ill equipped in dealing with typical children's antics and get very upset and 'concerned' over the smallest things. It almost seems that they antagonize minor situations to turn them into major situations.
Poor academics/curriculum, staff are unfriendly and patronizing, a lot of my children's peers are 'less than desirable' (causing trouble, harassing, bullying), poor supports for kids with disabilities, no sports programs or otherwise (other than campfire), teachers seem ill equipped/apathetic and unhappy. Unless your child is perfect, plan for there to be a lot of problems with this school. We are pulling our children out ASAP!!
I am a teacher at Mill Park and absolutely love working here. Our staff is full of highly educated people who love kids. I am proud of my school and proud of all the great learning that occurs everyday.
