Profile Completeness

BASIC

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My daughter is a 4th grader. She started at Sacramento in Kindergarten. The first 2 years were great. A new principal came on-board and the school has gone way downhill. The teachers are wonderful, but the principal does not let them teach. The principal micromanages every minute of each teachers day. The school has lost so many good teachers, who have chosen to move on to better situations. The classes are over crowded, and the teachers get no support. My daughter is often afraid in the classroom because of the threat of violence. There is also not much parent involvement anymore. We will be leaving this school ASAP.

When my oldest daughter (now in middle school) went to Sacramento Elementary I would have given this school a very high rating. Unfortunately in the last 3 years with a new principle being brought in after the old one retired and a very dictatorship style of management by this principle has driven this school into the ground. Ms. Justice has driven away some really good teachers, has no lines of decent communication with parents and is trying to be so inclusive that she is actually excluding a large majority of families. It is really sad to see. I am honestly glad my youngest daughter only has a year and a half left here as the management of this school is seriously lacking. We as a family have tried talking to her about issues we see and we get told "yes something will be done" and nothing happens. It is a sad state of affairs when you have a principle that acts like she is there for parents and then does nothing to address the needs that are very obvious.

We're in our second year at Sacramento Elementary with two students. The administration is horrible at communicating to parents & puts unreasonable demands on them. More often than not, notification of meetings or events comes the day of the event, if at all. The school's website is rarely up to date with calendar items, has broken links, outdated information, outdated staff profiles, & is not user friendly to navigate. The Staff have been pleasant in our experiences with them, but they don't stand out as anything beyond average. They've failed to address concerns or questions on three different occasions. Though they post their state report cards (which they shouldn't be proud of), there's a gap between the 06/07 & 11/12 school years without explanation, nor is the most recent completed school year posted (12/13). ODE makes this info available & a little research shows a maximum rating of "satisfactory" for those years. In 2012/13, 36% of students didn't meet the state standards in reading, 48.5% didn't meet math standards, & 34.8% didn't meet science standards. If considering this school, prepare to take an active role in your child's education & the PTO to help improve it.

Two years ago I would have given this school a 7 or 8, but now I can't rate it low enough. It's all due to the new principal, Karen Justice Harger. She has intimidated both staff and parents. This school has the best staff in all of the parkrose school district, but she has caused many fine teachers to leave with her harassment and dictatorial "leadership." It saddens me to see such a great school be sabotaged by one person. What a horrible shame.

Excellent principal; teachers who really care and give attention to kids. Needs more music and PE instruction time.
