i am a freshmen at Mckay this is my first year and its a good school. i heard about people getting into fights and doing drugs and taking weapons to school. yeah some of it is true but that doesn't mean that every student is doing it. maybe what 2 out of 10 students are doing it. i think that our test scores are pretty average, i say this because if you look at our school we are the most bi racial and yes it hard to pass a test if you grew up learning a different language but i bet if you were to give a Spanish test to all the schools in the Salem Keizer school district Mckay would shine. so please don't judge Mckay if you haven't been there.
needs team work between students teachers and parents to be better school.the administration needs to support any activities like sports and music
I'm a student at McKay and this is my third year there. i think McKay is a pretty good school, i just think it has a lot of Disadvantages and challenges that some schools(like Sprague)don't have to deal with. something I've noticed is the staff cares a ton about students, the schools also gotten a lot better about safety. kids are really nice there, and there isn't much bullying. its a good school, i think it just gets labeled and doesn't have some of the advantages and blessings that some other schools have.
The reason that I give this school an average rating is not because of the students and/or the administration, but due to the lack of communication between the teachers and the parents. We both are working with our students/daughters or sons. It is time to work together not against each other!!
I'm a student at McKay and this is my third year there. ever since i first went there(and even before)i always have heard rumors about how like dangerous McKay is...about how there are gang fights in class and all over the campus and people bring knifes and there's all this violence and chaos and gang stuff going on...that is COMPLETELY UNTRUE. if you spent a whole day waling around the campus you'd probably think its a rather peaceful school. I(and lot of people at McKay as well)think our school gets unfairly labeled because of our past reputation and our diverse group of students. I've been to McKay for 2 years and I've only seen 1 fight, and NEVER at ALL seen or heard of any weapons in any students possessions. McKay is a good school, I've found it much better of a school then i thought it would be.
I love this school! It's a great school. Everyone is nice. And will always be. Their great. You feel like a big family, there's always someone to talk to about problems you're having or help in school and they're are always fun things to do. Their programs as well are great! You're never judge by what you believe, are, wear and/or say. And that's what I love about it. McKay HS is honestly a great school! The football and basketball games are awesomely fun too! Go Scots!. We are the Scotsmen the fighting Scotsmen!.
Greatest school I've been to. Administration is top notch and does the best with the staff it has. The Persistently Dangerous School label is a joke- I've seen more dangerous at a bingo hall.
While obviously not perfect, McKay hardly deserves such a low ranking. Until very recently, McKay had the best AP classes in the entire school district (yes, better than Sprague), and still has one of the best. We were recently given the title 'Most Persistently Dangerous School' in all of Oregon because we expell students who are problems (a whopping total of 1% of our population). And the reasons for the expulsions? Not gun fights, not knife fights, but usually freshman girls getting worked up and punching each other right in front of the office (literally) where the fight itself can be stopped very quickly. While I agree the violence needs to go down, I have heard so many worse things happening in other schools in Oregon
It is a great school. Everyone says its a 'dangerous school' but it really isn't. They based that on our expulsion rate. We get rid of the bad kids.
My son goes here and it is a really great school..
