Both of my children attend Sonshine. I have a pre-school girl and a 4th grade boy who has been attending Sonshine since Kindergarden. The teachers know their students and modify their teaching styles to cater to each child's learning style. The classes are small and the parents are very involved with the school. It is Christian based but they also cover science, math (not common core) and all other traditional subjects in depth. I had a conflict between what was being taught during Bible class (literal creationism) and what my family personally believes. The teacher was very respectful and handled the situation very well. During Bible class they acknowledge that some families have different beliefs and when the child has a question they should ask their parents. They are a very open Christian community and focus on God's love- not on judgeing others. My family is very non-traditional and we feel very welcome at this school. It is exactly the type of school I wanted for my kids. They also offer scholarships for parents who annoy afford the full tuition.

Loving Christian school. Small homestyle class rooms, very informal yet caring staff. Excels in focus on high achievers for spelling bee and inter school speech competitions. Some great teachers there but overall the school lacks anything contemporary and is very old fashioned. Out of date on assessments and knowledge in dealing with special needs. Room for improvement particularly in upper grades.

My daughter attends for preschool and daycare. I appreciate the structure and consistency of the program. Curriculum themes (seasons, colors, holidays, etc) are integrated with reading, pre-writing and storytelling, counting, art, and music (my daughter loves to sing the songs she's learned) and biblical stories. She is proud to know about rules, consequences, manners, and personal responsibility: i.e. clean up, sharing, communicating, etc. and has made many friends. She loves her teacher and the day care staff, all of whom are warm, knowledgeable, gentle and supportive. And she comes home happy! What could be improved? At drop-off, we working parents are in a rush, and the staff isn't as cohesive as I believe they could be in helping with the transition . . . it's a little bumpy. I've seen where teachers and staff come to the car to get the kids and bring them in: I liked it because it saves time and the transition is clear-cut. Other than this minor issue, Sonshine School has been a blessing for us and I would highly recommend it.
