Arbor is a private K-8 school focused on teaching children to be creative, intellectually curious and independent in a small classroom setting with a 1:8 teacher student ratio. The campus is a semi-rural 18 acre setting in the Stafford Triangle. All classes are mixed grade and gender balanced - K-1 are together ('Primaries'), 2-3 are together (Juniors'), 4-5 are together ('Intermediates'), and 6-7-8 are together as Seniors. Admission is highly selective with an emphasis on bringing in cultural diversity. Graduates are highly sought after by selective high schools. Students begin doing independent study projects as early as kindergarten, and the students culminate in their 8th grade year with a thesis level project. Strong emphasis on the creative arts with music and design arts integrated into the curriculum at all levels.

All three of our children attended Arbor School from k-8, and all of us really enjoyed it! The teachers are firm and fair and truly interested in the development of the kids along social and ethical lines, as well as academically. We also really gained from the time and relationships we developed with other families. The school provides ample opportunities for mixing and casual converstaions. We learned so much about the college search scene from families with older kids. They also have ways for graduates to keep in touch and for us to know what's going on at the school, now that we've moved on. You really are treated as a human being at Arbor.
