"Hi, I would like to know how can I motivate my 5th grader to read more and enjoy reading?"

"Last year my daughter was in the fourth grade and I had a difficult time trying to get her to do her homework while at school. She spends about 10hrs a day at school(7am til 4:50pm); counting childcare in the a.m and in the p.m. Some days she does her homework and most days she doesn't. When we get home, I'm exhausted from driving, cooking and now homework. How do I instill in her how importand it is to do most, if not all of her homework at school(sometimes there's a tutor at school)? It will mean so much to both of us if she does her best. Being an only child and having the opportunity to play with other children may be a hindrance for her before and after school. I've tried time-out, writing sentences, punishments for weekends and parties. In closing, how can I get a head start this year(5th Grade)? "
