What are ways to encourage a shy kid to be more outgoing?

One way would be to organize a group activity for a collection of shy kids that rewards them for taking steps (even small, baby steps) toward social interaction. The trick is to fake the kids into socialization, so they see there's nothing to fear.

good question, I need that for my self. My child is outgoing but introverted, she is very artistic and quiet and shy qualities that I sure appreciate but worries me because some teachers might/do forget her and she does not get the attention that
