Hampton High School

Our third child is currently enrolled at Hampton High School and we can do nothing but rave about how wonderful this school has been for them. It challenges them academically with many honors and AP courses available. The standard academic level classes also challenge the students to work above the "minimum requirements." HHS instituted a "writing across the curriculum" program and philosophy some years back which drew our attention when our oldest son was transitioning from a private school some years back. This program seeks to build the writing skills of all students, even in math and the sciences. What a wonderful concept! The extracurriculars at this school are as varied and numerous as the academic offerings. The commitment of faculty and staff is tremendous. The parents are welcome and committed to the school, as is seen in the very active PFA. There are plentiful sports opportunities. The school's marching band is noted for it's size; nearly one quarter of the student body participate! HHS has an outstanding drama corps and has won several Kelly Awards, including best musical for their 2011 production of West Side Story. We love this school!

I have attended Hampton all my life and I can truly say that I would refuse to go anywhere else. Hampton has the perfect mix of extra curricular activities and sports. Academics here are however the number one priority. As for the students-if you are new here, you will be sure to find a group of friends you prefer. The teachers are excellent. The whole school is great and creates a real high school atmosphere while still prioritizing academics. Hampton is truly the best of both worlds.

I graduated from Hampton High School. I can tell you first hand that the school is basically college preparation. I may not have had an IEP, but I was able to move 'tracks' fairly effortlessly. It is because of several of these teachers that I am going into the teaching profession. I know that I had a problem with another student who would try to physically assault my friends and me, and the administration took the proper steps to avoid the confrontation from becoming something that would threaten my 'safe learning environment.' As with everything, you need to figure out how to handle problems that arise. Being calm and presenting clear information is essential when dealing with anyone, the administration included. You must be willing to educate them. You are your child's best advocate. They do not know your child as well as you do. Translate their needs to the classroom

Immature administration that is not willing to listen, works against not with the parents. Special education is almost non existence. It is the schools way or no way. Most teachers are not interested in helping special needs children.

They try to hold the kids down make them learn from their path not let the kids choosee their own path. Most of the teachers aren't very interested and are just awful.

Many opportunities if you are self-motivated and get the 'right ' teachers. Plenty of teachers are truly interested in teaching and know their subject matter well, but when you run into the few that don't have a clue it's disappointing. When a class consists of a teacher reading from a text book to the kids or giving out totally erroneous information we, as parents, wonder were priorities are That is only one example of a few. On the flip side, many more teachers are highly interested and interesting as well. Over all, a good school high school.
