Left this school for a better Cyber school Too much bullying and favorites also too many drugs They pay more attention to sports Then right from wrong I'm glad I left
this school does not take bullying serious!! I pulled my girls out from the high school for this reason!
So, here's the deal: As a graduate of BHS, I find it hard to rate this school on the whole; but rather, each student's experience with individual teachers will more likely shape his or her experience than anything else. That said, I shouldn't complain; I ended up graduating at the top of my class and currently attend a university ranked in the top 30 in America for my major. Several of my teachers were excellent. However, I also credit my GIEP and individual work (ie taking classes independently and teaching myself by reading textbooks). Although that skill is useful, especially for science/engineering-minded students, the Math dept. is weak at best , the computer science dept. is incredibly strong, and the English dept., save for honors English and AP, is totally useless.
I graduated from Blackhawk and have since gone on to Penn State and received a degree in Computer Engineering and currently work for the government. My major required extensive knowledge in math and science and I felt Blackhawk provided me with the knowledge I needed to succeed. Good School.
I've had 3 daughters in this school who were all disappointed. The first two left after one year, opting for Cyber School. The largest complaint was the favoritism and lack of reality to the drug problem among students. There is a lot of unnecessary bullying by sports members that the faculty turns a blind eye to. We have been through several school districts in the United States and this one is the worst I have entered so far. Don't feel the quality of education is there and locals like to keep the school the way they had it in the 70's. Over all highly disappointed in the high school...it could be run better if some families that are the 'powers that be' were not so dominating and the school not so accomodating to them.
A very good school with very dedicated teachers and administrators.
After graduating from Blackhawk, I felt confident and prepared for college and the real world. The teachers there are amazing, and the variety of athletic opportunities should not be taken for granted. I feel I was very blessed to attend this high school and recieve the opportunites it offered.
As a current student of Blackhawk High School, I Can tell you that Blackhawk is just a school for sports,as mentioned before the sports players get 'special' attention and rarely get in trouble for mischeif they cause. Like all highschools there are many social groups, and at Blackhawk students never have to sit by there selves at lunch, or worry about not fitting in. If I may also add, the academic programs that this school offers high scores and many CP, and AP classes. Blackhawk has also reached the states higest Englis/Reading PSSA scores in the state. Over all Blackhawk is a good school, but is greatly overshadowed by sports.
Great academics, but easily overshadowed by sports. Harassment runs rampant, and staff tend to turn a blind eye to it. Extracurriculars are typical of most high schools, but they offer enough quality programs that any child should be able to easily find something they fit into.
I have two children who both graduated from Blackhawk. One has already graduated from Penn State and the other is in college now. They received an excellent education in all areas, especially writing and math. Their college calculus classes were a review after AP Calculus from Blackhawk. I attribute all their academic success to the wonderful, supportive teachers they each had through the years. Neither of my children were involved in major sports and yet they were always recognized for their academic achievements. I am proud to say that my children graduated from Blackhawk and had the strong basis starting in elementary through senior year.
