I attended the Christmas Choir performance late November 2013. As a new resident, I was appalled at the "chaos" in the cafeteria where it was held. No opening comments from the adminstration, constant talking and milling around, participation choir members were blowing kisses to friends, smacking lips while chewing gum while supposedly singing. There were no ending remarks and the kids just walked off. The new online homework site loses work constantly and creates missing assignments and is only corrected when the parent goes in to complain. No proactive work by the teacher after seeing an abnormal trend or a failing test. The children speak frequently about drug use and the availability of pot to purchase. I sit in the parking lot to pick my 8th grader up and am amazed at the lack of discipline and control that the school has over the children. The kids "allow" the administration to be "in charge". I cannot wait to leave this school and the PA school system after this school year. What a disappointment.
The bullying is out of control and the school lies about the "0 Tolerance for Bullying"!!! The principles have no involvement w/ these issues, they put it all on the counselors but some of these kids need discipline bc it keeps happening over and over!!!
I am currently an 8th grader at Shafer. I am on team 8a. I do agree our school has some problems, but every school does. Shafer in my opinion deals with the situations very well, and takes disiplinary actions when needed. This school gives you many freedoms and lets youhave fun while you learn. You meet many people. I love shafer middle school. And i am going to be sad when i leave at the end of this year.
The best school my son ever attended! Mr Incollingo was always involved with helping a student or a parent. He is very professional and cares about all his students. The teachers are phenominal! The secretaries are very organized and keep everything running smooth. Shafer is kept very clean and the kids love being there. They are very sad to leave. Ms. Fields is very knowledgeable and does a terrific job with the children. I can't say enough about this school. My son graduated this year, I will truly miss everyone there. Shafer will always be a big part of our family. Debra McCarron
Mrs. Margaret Shaw should be voted as teacher of the year. Her FACS Class is wonderful. I especially love and highly endorse the 'Baby think it over' project! Mrs. Shaw spends a lot of time with the students and with this special program. Her efforts do not go unseen by me and are deeply and gratefully exceptional in my point of view. It was sad that this school lost one of the better and most popular teacher this year. Robert Shafer is excellent.
Robert K. Shafer Middle School is an excellent school where they focus on the students and in our recent catastrophe they pulled us together and made sure we all were comforted. And even though it's been months since it happened the staff and the school won't forget it. the teachers are great! The students are to.. I mean you always have a bad apple in a bunch. It's a great place to prepare for high school. ~Shafer Supporter
