For the money you pay doesn't match the education you receive. The school only cares about sports. Beware; not only do you pay the tuition but you are always being asked for money, donations, trips, events, fundraising, not worth it.
Honestly, after sending my daughter here for four years, the $30,000+ that I have spent on tuition was an absolute waste. Teachers are not required to have a degree in the subject they teach, just a general teaching degree. Unless you play sports, which virtually everyone does, you are treated horribly. The guidance counselors here do not prepare you for college and they do nothing involved with discipline; that is another person's responsibility. When my daughter was applying to colleges, I had to pay $3 per college just to send the transcripts, which took over 30 days for them to send. My younger son will definitely be attending Liberty High School when he reaches the age.
The education quality here is very high and provides students with a well-rounded education. They offer challenging and competitive courses. The teachers for the most part are very good and are more than happy to help any student who asks for it, however they do will not "hold a student's hand" through the class, as they emphasize independence and personal responsibility. The students and faculty are generally friendly and helpful. One does not have to join sports to be happy or accepted here, as I personally have never been involved in any sports and have enjoyed my experience. There are many other clubs that students can get involved in, and students are encouraged to begin their own clubs as well. However, I will say that getting involved is one of the best ways to succeed and make friends in this school. The school prepares all students well for SATs, and the guidance counselors do their best to help students with the college selection and application process. Some people may find their rules, specifically regarding dress code, to be strict, but that comes with the territory of a Catholic school.
If you are looking to send your either, new highschool son or daughter to an educational environment that would uphold the simplest necessities for a good high school experience. Bethlehem Catholic is not the choice for you. The tuition is over 8,000 dollars without a scholarship, you are basically paying for a far worse academic learning experience, a school with no A/C,and a very poor faculty. They say how much they care about ALL of their students like no other school, yet they divide their schools and favor certain students like no other as well. In an athletically focused school if you do not play sports or do any extra corricular activities you are soon forgotten. Also, the school makes it impossible to get in to a higher academic classes, due to their poor teaching. Which are the only classes that may have a good teacher (not gauranteed), all the standard class teachers dont excel in their field as a simple public school teacher may and from my experience as well as my fellow classmates can say, no one understands what the teacher is teaching and basically has to learn on their own. If you want to send your son or daughter to BECA, i strongly suggest to pick another school.
Beca is AWESOME! What makes is so special are the people- the students and the teachers. It has a nice "family" feel to it. The administration is very willing to work with parents. The honors classes are challenging.
Low academics, bizarre priorities with sports at the top of the list. If you care about quality education look elsewhere.
Look no further for the best high school for your son or daughter. Faculty has fantastic credentials, sports programs are outstanding, parental involvement is second to none. If your child is college bound, this is the place to be. Almost all students go on to attend top quality 4 year colleges, from the Ivy's right on down the list.
BECA is a place for everyone. Teachers are skilled and care about the development of everyone. BECA encourages students to be leaders with strong moral standards. My son achived a dean scholarship.
If your son or daughter aspires to gain entry to a top college or university, plays sports well, and will give BECA another 'statistic' to tack up on the wall then you're in the right place. If your son/daughter is just a typical kid that wants to enjoy their day-to-day school experience surrounded by nice kids then you'll need to look elsewhere. The academic expectations are sub par despite the fact that BECA has some excellent faculty. There's too much wasted time on nonsense assemblies (to honor athletes), shortened class shedules, etc. Our child learned little or lost ground academically in the school amidst constant bullying. Look elsewhere!
This is the wost catholic school i've ever attended. Not only are the teachers horrible but the rules dont make sense!you get in trouble for wearing the wrong colored hair-band but no one gets in trouble for dis-respecting teachers.Their theology classes are jokes!most of the teachers don't even know what they're teaching!!i can not wait to graduate!
I chose to send my daughter (who graduated #1 in her elementary school class of 103 students) to Bethlehem Catholic rather than choose the local public high school available to us. I have to say, it was one of the best things I ever did. Not only did she excel academically beyond what I had hoped for but she graduated a well rounded students with strong ethical morals that I attribute to Bethlehem Catholics excellent teaching staff. She went on to a very prestigious college and I am happy to say she is graduating this year. Thank you BECA high! PS and ..the uniforms are a fabulous idea! Nothing like NOT having to argue with your daughter every school morning regarding appropriate school attire!
I go to this school and could have gone numerous other places and still can if I choose to do so, but the feeling in the school is one of a family. We stick up for each other and really care for each other. If something happens to anyone connected to the school, past or present, we all take it to heart. I chose to go to BECA because of the teachers, students, and everyone else who is there day in and day out. People really do care about the answer when they ask how you are. I would like to say one last thing. Not that long ago a friend of mine asked me why I liked going to high school so much. My reply, 'I go to BECA, why wouldn't I?'
