i agree that the school has been getting better, but i still think we have a ways to go. i moved to north dakota last year and came back a few weeks ago, and i actually missed the school. i love the freedom (chewing gum, phones, etc..) but i don't like the learning... how would you say it? structure? since we're not that big of a town i get why we would be behind, but when i came back from nd, everybody (teachers) was/were telling me i was doing everything wrong. AND i've heard about pregnancies, drugs, and all that jazz WAYY TOOO MUCHHH lately. this school is somewhat good... but still on the bad side. (although, we have cleaned and shaped up since i left.) (:
I love the way the teachers keep the parents informed. this school keeps the community involved with sports, plays, concerts ect...they help to make strong comunicating children. its just a really decent school for children in such a day and age where so many other schools suffer from drugs and violence. here you don't see or here about it like at bigger city schools! all around nice place!
Brookville is an average school, nothing more nothing less. I am now in college and I was prepared in my science course and history courses the science and history teachers at Brookville are great. Unfortunately, I was very far behind in my math classes, the math program at Brookville is awful. Learning basic concepts are unnessary because if you do the computer work then you can pass the class without learning anything at all. Also we learned from packets no books needed, in case we wanted to actually learn what we are doing. While there are some amazing teachers at Brookville most do not care. If you do not get what your being taught during class then tough luck. I feel this school has a few good programs to offer and a few that need rebuilt with new teachers .
The teachers could care less about how the students are treated. All they care about is how much $$$ is in it for them. If and when they go on strike all services are cut except for football which is one of the poorest examples of sport I have ever seen. Most parents only care that the shcool porvides free childcare. Sort of keeps the children out of the way for them. Other parents want specialized programs for thier children even if it means offending other students and parents. Such as religious teachings (one mothber insists on the explination of Passover, yet refuses to let any explination of Chirstmas to take place because her religion does not recognize Chirst). Yet this is a public school. Plus a vast majority of the students have no idea of what to expect in life after highschool.
I have been extremely impressed with the quality of education that my children have received in the Brookville Area School Distirct. I have seen amazing results from the reading program at the primary level. I am also impressed with how many courses this small school is able to offer. I don't know of any other school this size that offers ten Advanced Placement courses! Also, the fine arts and athletic faculty offer outstanding programs. With six levels of art, 11 technology courses, 11 music education/performance classes (includig band, choir, orchestra and AP Music Theory), our children have many opportunites to learn beyond the 'academic' realm. Athletics are also well supported in Brookville with boys' and girls' teams for every grade level during every season. My only wish would be to see other parents get more involved in the lives of their children.
BHS is a newly renovated school; I attended during these renovations. During that time I endured several significant disappointments. There are teachers that will help one-on-one, but you have to know where to look. There isn't a driver's ed program and the math program is an abomination. I didn't have a math book from the 7th grade until second semester of my senior year. The idea for math is good on paper, but it rarely actually works. Brookville is a small town where everybody know everybody. That has it's advantages, but please realize the sort of school you're sending your children to.
