My child started kindergarten this year. School seems to be well organized and faculty is helpful. However, my only fault is the lack of a before and/or after school program. This makes it difficult for working parents and some surrounding school districts seem to have these programs well established.
Cecil Elementary is a very good school for several reasons. First, it is targeted to young children K-4. The curriculum is challenging. Although the district's staff is mostly newer teachers, they are very dedicated, caring and knowledgeable. This school has a very active parent organization that does a lot for the school and kids. The principal is experienced, caring and personable. Discipline is very firm and expectations are high. The size contributes to a family setting school where many families know and help one another. I am very pleased with Cecil Elementary.
School is clean, safe, focused on education/advancing children's academic growth. Faculty is caring, involved in student-parent relationships. Strives for well disciplined students. Focuses on developing skills and abilities balanced w/social concepts. Like to see more creativite arts in cirriculum. Great technology program beginning with kindergarten, could use more computers (about 4-5 children/computer). Bus routes plentiful, district takes great care in transporting students safely/timely. District restructured 2003-04 school year, this school now K-4, about 15-16 children/class. New principal is former alumni of district, very personable, approachable. Teachers are nice mix of recent grads, mid-career & seasoned, bringing new ideas while focusing on old standards. Updated playground has large playing/ball field. Nurse & shared guidance counsellor on staff. Overall, excellent school that challenges young minds, participates in community activities. Very recommended place to start children's educational career.
