My son has been a student since the 7th grade, he is now a senior. He has carried a heavy work load each year and along with it comes a ton of homework. The person who suggested one teacher assigns busy work by making students do coloring as homework, is totally missing the point of the assignment. Students learn in different ways, some learn by just reading text, while others learn better by mapping out or diagramming (coloring) maps, geography or the periodic table.
Best decision we ever made was moving our son out of public school and into Cheswick Christian Academy. The teachers are excellent and always willing to go the extra mile if a student is struggling with a subject. The students are welcoming to newcomers and act more like a family unit than a student body. Great school, great staff!
It's a small school with a supportive environment. The staff communication with parents is excellent. This is a no nonsense school where students are held accountable for following school rules. The school follows curriculum similar to what you what you would find across most public schools.
Actually I think many schools do homework just for the sake of giving homework. This school allows the student to be involved in other activities outside of school while still maintaining a strong academic standards.
My son goes to this school and for a small school it has a lot to offer. They have accelerated as well as regular programs in High School. The atmosphere is very caring and friendly. You can't beat the price either.
The teachers are not certified nor their degrees correlate to what they teach.
If a staff member does not like a student they will go out of their way to harass and humiliate them.
Their bullying policy is "we don't want to hear about it and if you can't take it then leave".
The bullied get treated better than their victims.
The sex policy is sex doesn't exist yet most of the student body is openly sexually active and they aren't taught about safe sex.
Parents aren't allowed to complain or give input or you'll be ignored and left out of the schools cliques.
If you want your child to get a real education send them elsewhere because you just won't get it here.
