my daughter goes to harris and I think the teachers and students are worse than chester schools. She gets bullied by teachers and students everyday. The principal doesnt do anything to help the situation. I cant wait for her to be outta that district.
My daughter graduated from Harris. During the graduation ceremony students were called onto the stage that won awards for music, and extra curricular activites. My daughter among other students were on the honor roll. To make a long story short they were over looked, and did not receive anything for academics. What happened to schools concentrating on academics. In my opinion a kid should be awarded for honors and not things such as music and extra curricular activities.
My son went to Harris we all love the school. the teachers were niceand the school it self is clean & neat.....
this school is bias with it's sudents this school is up to stanadards for teaching a highly developed child. this schoo needs to be evaluated immeadiately
My nephew goes to Harris Elementary. I have the highest regard for his teacher, aides, and the principal. They have really given him the support he needed and he has shown great improvement. Betty Goldfield
I am impressed with this elementary school. It is a small setting and the faculty goes the extra mile for the students and parents
My son went there for one year. He had a little difficulty with reading. I asked that he be tested and to get help, they recognized he had a problem but didn't help him out until the school year was almost over. Instead of helping him, I felt that they made everything too easy for him. I was very disappointed with Harris. I have since transferred him to a catholic school and he has struggled with the school work there and I believe it's because Harris is behind academically. Also, there is no discipline. Kids get in fights in the classroom and the teacher doesn't do anything to stop it. My son was hit and I wasn't even notified. The principle/dean is not organized at all. I received notices at the last minute to go to school functions/Home and school. I strongly recommend that you do not send your child there.
Harris has some excellent teachers, and some downright poor teachers. I believe the new principal has been a strong rolemodel for the children, and is making a concerted effort in advocacy for the children. I had an issue, and Mr. Ryan not only heard me out, but implemented changes based on my suggestions. They recently added a middle school onto all elementary schools in the district. This change has been extremely positive. While this district is still underfunded, My child has resided since kindergarden and I finally see it moving in the right direction. Violence is not tolerated, and a program has been implemented for at risk children. Children can now refer other children for counciling that may have emotional distress. Thanks for finally listening harris staff.
We have attend Harris for two years. My first impression of the curriculum was that they taught a well rounded curriculum. I felt that they did not just teach the standard test. I hope they stay this way. I am looking forward to meeting the new principal and hope he can make some positive changes.
The teachers in this school are excellant, however I am not at all happy with the principal. I do not feel that she handles serious events that occur in the school properly. She chooses instead to pick out little things such as odd hair highlights (temporary color) to try and make an example out of.
I think that Harris is a wonderful school because it opens up so many great opporunities for children. The teaching staff is great and the classrooms are slpendid. The teachers interact with the parents for a good realtionship to help their child succeed in school.
when my daughter first attended Harris, I was exited thinking it was a great school. I was wrong. Kindergarten was a nightmare! Another student verbally threaten my daughter and her teacher thought nothing of it. I had a 5yr old hating school already. I started thinking of puting her in a private school. It wasn't until she went to 1st grade that she started liking school again. I realize that it wasn't the school, it's the teacher! Harris has some very good teachers there that do care, and they have some who are just there.
I have two children that attend this school. I have to say when my 1st was in kindergarden that I wasn't happy with this school, I shouldn't say the school the kindergarden teacher. I think since my 2nd child has started the the school has come along way. The teachers care, the reading program is excellent. I believe that there is at least one thing that someone dislikes about every school. I believe whole heartily that this is one of the better elementary schools in the SE district.
As most parents say Harris is a bad school. I will have to disagree. My daughter goes to Harris and from what I can see its a very good school. It may have its ups and downs but ite definetly better than some of the other schools down there. The principal, vice principal, and the teachers take time to talk with the students and who need guidance.
Harris is not the best school to go to, but it's not the worst. I am a student at Harris and I've been their since kindegarden and I am still there. The teachers try to fair to all of the students. There may be some conflicts at the school but there is always someone you can go to to get help. You can feel safe at Harris cause I know I do. The principal, vice principal, and teachers make going to Harris fun even when we are learning.
This is hands down the absolute worst school my son has attended. I have never experienced such disorganization and lack of care for the children. The teachers do what they have to do, they close their eyes to most of the out of control students and outbursts during class and frankly, I feel they are afraid of them. The principal has a very poor attitude and does not respond well to any issues concerning problem children and their behavior. Coming from the New Jersey public school system. It was a horrifying experience and I implore any parent considering this school to please do your homework.
Unfortunately I have a step-son who attend this school. I was able to get my other children to attend Darby Township Schools, but the district would not give me another acception. The teachers at Harris are there do perform a duty. You get the idea that this is a job for them and not a profession. The students come mostly from homes where education and success are not the primary goals. Harris have plenty of borderline students who are potential candidates for the Southeast Academy, an alternative school. I cringe every day my son attends this school. My goal is to get him out asap in the future. To all parents considering Harris, send your child to a Catholic/Private school if you can!
