I love most of the teachers at this school; however, the current principal is difficult. She is inconsistent & does not have the children's best interest in mind. Bullying has been an issue in the higher grades there & after repeated calls & meetings, my child continued to get hurt. She said there ia a no tolerance policy but did not follow through after many times seeing the physical evidence of not just verbal but also physical bullying. I was satisfied with the teachers both my children had but safety & discipline were an issue as well as the principal's leadership.

I love this school. I have only ever had good experiences with the teachers and administrators. My daughter enjoys going to school everyday and has really excelled. The poster who mentioned that morale is low is so off. Unfortunately during the 2006-2007 school year the current PTO had a problem with accepting a new prinicpal and new initiatives and in the end caused much uproar, looked foolish and pulled their children out. Now this year there is no drama and the kids continue to excel.

Teachers and support staff are great for the most part. Most of the glowing reviews are from 2005 when all of that was true. Morale is at an all-time low. Very sad.

Barrett Elem. used to be the most desired elementary school in the PMSD. There has been a new principal since last school year and is chasing parent volunteers and community involvement away.

Barrett Elementary is a one of the best Elementary schools in Monroe County. It's academic programs are outstanding and the teachers are incredible, they are very creative and try to make the childrens learning experience as interactive and enjoyable as they can. The classroom experience for the children is that of a family, they learn about public speaking in a smaller enviroment through plays and interactive games so that they are better able to handle a bigger audience. My daughter is pretty shy but has no problem in her classroom getting involved because she has been doing since Kindergarten in a fun non-threatning way. That is one the things that I am most proud of about Barrett Elementary, making your children feel comfortable with their own voice is one of the most important things that we can do.

Teachers are too busy to pay specialized attention to a childs needs. They need more older quality teachers , seems the staff there just can not handle the amount of children

Barrett is a wonderful elementary school. The test scores have always been excellent. It has been said(and noticed) that parental involvement was one of the highest(if not the highest) in the district. There is a low turnover of teachers, so the ones that are there are well experienced, and very well-liked. I noticed recently that the local paper had published the distinguished honor roll for the 7th grade (middle school). 19 of the 20 names listed had attended Barrett Elementary.
