They got a new principal this year, so hopefully things will improve. The last principal only cared about what percentage of students met the minimum proficiency level (not to mention she was quite mean to both children and parents). My son is highly capable and was not given challenges, so his first grade year was a waste. My daughter loved her teacher and seemed to do well, though I was annoyed by all the shortcuts they learned because she doesn't actually understand concepts and underlying theories (this is not the teacher's fault, it is a curriculum issue). There is a huge lack of communication in the school. We are a week away from the first day of classes and we still have no idea who our teachers are or what the bus schedule is (there were so many problems with kids missing their bus rides home from school last year!) There is very little opportunity for parents to be involved in the school setting.
