My son will be leaving to attend Dallastown High School next year and we are very excited. The Middle School has been an excellent experience for my son. He sometimes complains that they are strict, but it is not an easy task molding young teenagers. I have found the school administrators to be "approachable", they want to help if there is a problem. That goes for the guidance counselors as well. The teachers are amazing, even my son tells me that. They will communicate and work with you for whatever your childs needs may entail. They have "team meetings" so teachers can share with each other pertinent information reagarding students that may be having difficulties.
My daughter just completed three years at the middle school after being homeschooled through Grade 5. She is now a freshman at the high school and doing very well academically. She was well prepared for this high school year because of the excellent teaching received at the middle school. She learned excellent study habits that will be carried out in High School. The teachers, staff, principals, and guidance office at the middle school are excellent. This is a top notch school with plenty to offer academically and socially. Keep up the GREAT work!!
So far this year was our first year at the Middle School. I was very disappointed in... about everything. The teachers are non-supportive, and the office crew never helps with what I need or ask about. What we pay for our child's education is not worth it. Although the fact there is a helpful guidance councilor.
The school is a good school, but being one of the largest middle schools in the state of Pennsylvania, you must closely watch and monitor your child's education. You must be an advocate, or your child could get lost in the shuffle. Otherwise, there are lots of opportunities for advancement, lots of extra-curricular activities. There is good parental involvement, but it is not encouraged as it was at elementary school level. Student rowdiness is hard to keep on top of, and has been known to get out of hand, but they really do make a sincere effort to stay on top of problems. The school has experienced and will experience more diversity and growth in the coming years. The district has become more affluent in recent years, but is struggling with it's image as a suburban school from mostly rural roots.
The Dallastown Middle School is not worth the taxes we pay for the school system. Some teachers are rude and unwilling to help or compromise with parents or students The Vice-Principle Dr. Senft is more interested in showing his power and showing results than investigating the issues of the students. The students seem to be treated more like inmates than pupils in this school and the anti-bulling programs they have in place are ineffective and useless. Some of the staff and teachers are more interested in upholding arcane policies than education of the children. In one parent teacher conference I was taken aback by my son's teacher wanting to complain to me about a vase that was broke by my son accidently than about his lack of feeling challenged in her class. We rate this school poor and can only hope that the high school is better.
This is our 2nd year at DAMS. We moved to this part of Pa because of the good reputation I have heard about this school. I am not at all impressed. The teachers and others working in the school, such as some office personnel seem to be very rude to the kids. I have seen it and heard it myself. These young adults need to be treated with respect just as the adults would like to be treated. They also have 'academic restriction'. If your child has below a 69 average in a class, they sit quietly in a special homeroom class for homeroom and all fun activities. If they separate these kids for having trouble learning, the teachers should help tutor them, not punish them. Communication is also poor.
In my opinion Dallastown Middle School was a little disapointing the past 3 years. The teachers seem to be there only for the job not the students. Work is given to the students without being explained properly, and then the student is responible to learn and understand the information in order to pass a test. They pile up homework during the PSSA's. The children are up late at night and again early in the morning and are expected to have high scores. Students rely on the teachers for guidance and assistance, and I believe it is not there. For the children whose parents are not always around, there may not be any hope for them.
Having finished our first year at Dallastown Middle School, I am very pleased. The teachers are great & helpful, the school seems to really go the extra mile. I especially love the after school activity buses - they are a Godsend for those parents who have to work. This year they start project seventh grade to make the parents more aware of the issues facing our preteens. I will not move from this school distric.
I am currently enrolled at this wonderful school. There is not much bad things to say about Dallastown. The teachers and principals mainly consintrate on academics. They like to work one on one with the students.I personally have no complants about the staff and the academics. This school also consintrates on the career path ways of there students. We take tests to see what fields we are good at, so it can help us pick which studys we want to take in senior high. We have a wonderful athletic department. We probably have evey kind of sport. You name it we probably have it. I am in Wrestling and we have an extrordinary team. These are the reasons Dallastown is the school to go to.
