Wonderful, caring teachers! My son is in 5th grade, and he has had very good to excellent teachers every single year. The teachers put in many hours of their own time to make sure their classes are interesting and fun. They truly care about their students. The children who need extra help are given just that. They get 1 to 1 help with tutors. The tutors are wonderful too! They make the subject material fun. I am very pleased with the education my son is getting. I can't say enough good things about the staff at Brecknock!
My children have been in this school for 5 years. I agree it is a great community atmosphere, but I am not sure everything that should be done is being done to advance the education of the students. I feel like we do not get the district resources we need to handle some very significant behavior problems. Not seeing the problems does not mean it is not there. Unfrotunately, we won't recognize how far behind the othe schools we are until it is too late.
I have no IDEA how this school only gets a 5 out of 10 Great Schools rating, as we have recently been in the top 10% for the state in test scores. (And PA is not a bad state as far as test scores go). Our daughter has excelled very much at this VERY safe school. What is particularly impressive is that already at the 4th grade level she attends math classes that are purely based on level (they have standard, proficient and advanced classes). She is tailored to on her reading as well as they do a lot of special things with her advanced reading group. Also, she is pulled out of class twice per 6 day schedule rotation for gifted intervention. So, I really feel satisfied that they are going the 'extra mile' to tailor education to the individual needs.
My kids have now spent a combination of nine years at Brecknock Elementary and it is a wonderful school community. They work hard with every child as an individual and especially with any child who is struggling. All the teachers my children have had over the years were terrific teachers. I look forward to finishing our our Elementary years at Brecknock. I also love that they not only allow parent envolvement, but strongly encourage it.
Excellent school. Coming up from the city with three children it was a real relief to experience a all around great school with teachers who care.
