This school is very high quality. The writing program is especially rigorous and fantastic! We moved from another district in Chester County that is supposed to be the "best", but West has proven to be far superior in every way. Colleges are impressed when they see that our children go to DWHS, and they have said in interviews that they "always look at D-West kids"! Parents are so active that maybe guidance counselors don't need to be so focused on hands-on college promotion, but I know that these kids could be going to the very best schools, and would love to see Guidance promoting them more vigorously. My experience is that the coaches are more invested in their athletes getting into the right colleges than are the guidance counselors. Overall, this is a really top-notch school!
My two daughters graduated in 2005 & 2006. They were very successful students (Honors, AP GPA's of 4.25 & 3.8 etc..) They were both good students on their own, but I believe the Faculty & Administration at DWHS was a great factor in their success. I found them to be supportive & caring. Students were treated with resprct, but who also expected to be respectful. The Musci, Arts & English Departments were the best. I think the language department could use a little improvement.
There are high standards. The students have to work at it, but if they ask for help when its needed, they will do absoultly fine. The school proggrams are excellent from swimming to band to special needs.
I Agree, Change of schools for my child was not easy because of the rigorous standards. However the Guidance Dept. is Spectacular!
High standards and expectations. Students have to work for good grades. Excellent faculty and staff. Several extra-curricular activities. No tolerance for intollerance. Overall, it is a great school. Teachers generally care about students.
Moved here from NC. my son says it's harder but that means they expect more. The class choices are unbelievable. So are the sports and clubs
An excellent public school! Great teachers, plenty of educational and extra-curricular activities available, and a good reputation for placing students at excellent colleges and universities.
It was an absolutely excellent school. I would recommend it to newcomers, becuase the administration is wonderful! The school is too! Thanks Downingtown!
Downington Schools are the best! I moved my children here in 2004 from Michigan, and you can't even begin to compare! It was the best thing I could have ever done for my kids and their futures. I have a child in DEHS and Uwchlan elementary and I brag to everyone in Michigan how wonderful these schools are! They have so much to offer! Great education! Great teachers! It's such a shame that all schools don't offer education like this.
The teachers at DHS are highly involved and press for good results. Most teachers will stay after school to help on an individual or small group basis.
