The pros in favor of this school are extremely high. The class sizes are very small meaning exceptional interaction between the students and teachers, and the quality of the teachers is generally very good. The availability of the extracurricular activities that are offered is virtually limitless, meaning that students can have a very well rounded experience, participating in whatever activity they want to try out. Because this school is so outstanding in its areas of strength, its areas of weakness are often overlooked. This school isn't for everyone, just because of the simple fact that being small it doesn't have the resources. If you are looking to excel at a certain area, you can usually only go so far at Jenkintown. The athletic competition is low, and AP and other advanced classes are underdeveloped (with the exception of the English department which has over-prepared students for nation's highest colleges). Also, socially, there aren't many kids there, so it is difficult to find a group to fit into or be prepared for a much bigger world after high school. Bottom line, for a regular, average kid there are few places better to get a great experience.
Although the people in this school are pretty boring and there are not many; the school is a great environment with teachers he genuinely care if you do good. Almost everyone is advanced from such great schooling compared to other schools around and the athletics are pretty great for only 200 kids. One of the smallest public schools in PA and highly ranked. Its a pretty good place with great spirits.
This school is horrible. The students have groups that you will not be able to get into, they are snobby and two faced, and the teachers hardly teach you anything. I guarantee you will not like this school at all.
This school is really too small to offer the opportunities and advantages of a larger school. There are hardly any ap classes and after school activities are somewhat limited. The teachers are very nice and good at what they do, but they aren't anything out of the ordinary( aside from mr. hench) but the general population of Jenkintown leaves something to be desired. If your child(ren) are different in any way, they probably will not enjoy their time in Jenkintown.
My kids have gotten a wonderful education from top notch teachers who truly care. They have been well prepared for college with a challenging curriculum and opportunities. The small size presents some truly unique opportunities for teachers and students to really get to know each other and for all of the students to know pretty much everyone in their class - without sacrificing the academics or individuality.
I have had two children (so far) graduate from JHS. Each one has told me, on several occasions, how overly prepared they were for college - not only academically, but socially and emotionally as well. The teachers and administration are truly amazing in their knowledge and deep caring for the students. This is a private school with a public school cost and we are lucky to have this gem.
The teachers are great, in spite of what they have to deal with as far as the administration. The administration leaves much to be desired. They tend to do what they want, no matter what the parents and community want.
This is a great school with great teachers. They also have many programs and do EVERYTHING they can to make sure children understand their studies. This school is very warm and inviting. My kids say its like a home away from home.
