West Side Elementary School

This school tends to teach only the bare minimum and has yet to try to go above that. The teachers tend to focus solely on the PSSA's and focus only on those things.

I have had nothing but problems with the administration of this school. My son has an IEP which I have found that those in direct contact with my son have been unaware of. Also, the administration has not respnded to request by my son's doctors and myself for changes to his IEP. There are a couple awesome teachers but I can't pretend to know what is going on in his classes because the school makes it almost impossible for a parent to visit/participate in their child's classroom.

My husband and I have found out that the teachers there are just great. Our son just finished Kindergarten and he had a wonderful Kindergarten experience. His teacher, Mrs. Skufca is just one of the best! She is the kind of teacher that you want your child to have! Everyone is so helpful and informative! It is a great school!

My son goes to this school, first grade. I can send notes with any concerns to his teacher and she will promptly call or reply. They have a PTA type group called PIE which I hear is excellent. I've only had one problem with the handling of a situation and it happened in kindergarten. Another student had intentionally hurt my son and, while the principal did contact me and inform me of what was going on, I have no idea what, if any, punishment was handed down to the offender. Other than that one incident, my son and my husband and I are quite happy with the teaching as well as the curriculum at this public school.
