I am a former student of Karns City and I had a great time while I was there. The teachers did not judge students on their athletic ability but on their character and willingness to work hard. The assistant principal was not biased towards football players. I had the opportunity to play football for him from my Sophomore through my Senior year and I saw many of my teammates coming out to practice late because he had given them detention. The teachers at KC do a great job preparing the students for College. I do not attend a state university, but a private institution, and I felt very prepared. The teachers were very personal with the students which was great. If you showed them respect, you got it back. But if you didn't do what you were supposed to and didn't respect the teachers they took proper action. I had a great time at Karns City and would love my kids to go there. -Giff '09

my children all went to KCHS. My boys where not athletic and they where not star students. .I've asked for tutoring and was turned down. I was told there where others who needed it more. What the heck . They (teachers and especially principles) judge kids on there appearance, instead of accepting them for who they are. Kids in high school are just trying to find themselves, find where they fit in. If your not athletic this can be very hard. I don't think the assistant principle should also be the football coach. He is not fair to the students who aren't athletic. I feel my boys where constantly bullied not by kids though, but by faculty. Now my daughter who is a star student has had no problem at all with KCHS. So I guess it like this. If your child struggles in school don't go to KCHS.

A lot of teachers here are wonderful and excellent and other teachers are there for a paycheck. The school would benefit best from a complete renovation in administration. Administration needs to rethink what their motives are for public education. They definitely show favoritism towards staff and students. The students who were outgoing, star athletes and worked to get wonderful grades were the ones that were worked with to succeed while others were left out. Thank God for College to actually prepare me for life and a career. Obviously many would consider me just a bitter student, but the school has potential they just refuse to reach it. Education has the possibility to make or break lives.

I was a student at KCHS for 4 years. I played football and track. The school district did seem to care more for sports than the academics but the sports are what kept most of the students out of trouble. The teachers at this school are like no other teachers I have had. They are your friends when you respect them. Some of them even give their home phone #'s to their students just incase they need help while they are at home. No ordinary teacher would do that. The asst. principal did not judge you by your athletic ablility but by your personality and potential. These teachers want you to succeed in life and are willing to help you as much as they can to make it happen. But you have to be willing to succeed also. This is a good school environment for any student. Nathan Class of 2008

Although my experience with Karns City was somewhat limited to my student teaching experience, I must comment about what I've seen. I think that the school has some fantastic teachers that care about nothing more than to see their students succeed. However, many students are used to living up to only mediocre expectations from previous teachers, so they are not sure how to blossom to their potential. By all forces working together, the school would do much better in the area of academics, but it seems to me that everyone's out for number one. To the students who read this page...pay attention to the advice of your teachers, because with the number of misspellings I've seen on this forum, I'm highly disappointed at the quality of education one can assume from reading these reviews!

I'm an alumn from the class of 2000 at KCHS. I've managed to keep a 3.5 average at Duquesne University for the last 4 years. This would perhaps lead one to believe I was well prepared for University life. However, this is absolutely not the case. Back when I graduated, and thus was exiled from the 'garden of eden' of KC, I had a hardened shell. Once in college, it was like a ray of hope. People were friendly, academics were the focus, and life was not only liveable, but enjoyable. Thank god I escaped the KC walls to find the real world. I sincerely hope that Karns City has found some way to escape the prejudice and politics that I suffered when I was a student.

In my opinion KCHS isn't the best school in the world. When I get older and have kids, personally I'd rather send my kids to Butler than this school. The asst. Principal favors people, and centers kids out just because they're different. Most of the teachers don't care about how the students feel, there are a few who do. They make fun of the students, and don't care about what they think. They yell at whoever they want, if they're not a cheerleader or a football player, son or daughter, neice or nephew they get in trouble whether it's because of their shoes, pants being to baggie, shorts being to short, etc.

Like most of those who posted comments, I am also not a parent but former student. However, I would have to disagree with the previous comments. The new football field was done because that was what the district had to use the money for. It was not the district's decision. That said, I believe KC provides an adaquate education for most. However, if you do not plan on attending a state university, you will probably not be prepared for college. The district places a lot of emphasis on lower level students often losing the best and brightest in the shuffle.

I think Karns City needs to do a full reevaluation of their school. I am a former student of K.C.H.S. and being a student there was very hard work. Students either gave up and failed or they simply dropped out. Yet let's spend all of our money for a new football field and track and whatever is left over, we will put into the rest of the school. Education should be the number 1 priority at a school. Everything else should follow education. Participation in sports can happen anytime, but high school gets the students ready for life on their own and KCHS is not doing a good job of it. Discipline is also a major factor at KCHS.

The Karns City High School has nothing else in mind other than sports. The football field shows that. All they care about is kids being in sports, not the academics. If your child would get into any type of problems, the disciplinary action would be to the fullest extent unless your child plays some sort of sports, then they are just told not to do it again, and are on their way. Parents, beware! If your child is not athletic, and you are thinking about moving to this district, don't! Academics are the bottom of the list in this school. Sports, sports, sports.
