Upland has a nice approach to teaching to the whole child, including athletics integrated into the school program, music, art, theater/drama, and after school programs.

Upland is an incredible small school. The children are really known and understood by their teachers. Those that need nurturing get it and those that need extra challenge get the push they need. I have 4 very different kids and it has been an incredible experience for all of them. Two have graduated and were accepted into the high school of there choice and have hit the ground running. I can't say enough good things about this little gem of a school.

Upland is a truly special school. Not only are its graduates prepared academically, the full participation model encourages students to step out of their comfort zones and develop talents they would have never known they had. Both my kids went onto highly selective secondary schools and colleges and were not only well-prepared academically, they were contributing members of those communities because of the life lessons they learned at Upland.

I have been fortunate to have two children attend Upland Country Day from lower school through ninth grade. Both were accepted into excellent prep schools (St. Andrews in DE and Pingree in MA) and were able to seamlessly continue forward with their studies. Academic preparation was excellent, athletic skills were solid and character and confidence traits were the best of all! The faculty, facilities and integrated programs involve parents to whatever level they choose and the opportunity for foreign travel in the student's last year was the icing on the cake. Definitely a must see school!

We have one graduate and one current Upper School student. Upland's 4 A's (Attitude, Academics, Arts & Athletics) is a well-rounded program which gives students the opportunity to experience and excel in areas which they might not otherwise attempt in a larger public school. Both our children discovered their strengths, talents and interests from trying new things, both in and out of the classroom at Upland Country Day School. Our graduate was confident in moving on to 10th grade & college and we continue to see our Upper School student becoming a mature leader in school. Would highly recommend the school for its supportive, creative and engaging teachers and the strong sense of community.

We are starting our second year at Upland and couldn't be happier. It is a wonderfully nurturing community that truly teaches the whole child. I am consistently impressed by how much my child has learned and been exposed to academically, in the arts and in sports. I highly recommend Upland!

I cannot begin to praise this school enough. Small classes, caring teachers, a nurturing environment...all the same things you hear about so many schools, but Upland really delivers. Its 'full participation' model builds confidence and resilience in students. The 9th Grade year allows kids to season and mature in a healthy environment so that they emerge strong and capable for the challenges of Grades 10-12 and beyond. Upland has forever changed - for the good - my children. I would recommend it to anyone.

I have sent my two children to Upland from K through ninth grade. They are very different kids with their own strengths and challenges. Upland has provided both with an excellent education and opportunities to try new things, like acting in the school play or public speaking, that have strengthened their confidence, character and leadership in Upland and once they graduate. I strongly recommend a visit to the scenic campus in Kennett Square. Our family is so glad we found Upland!

Upland is really an amazing school. My kids moved over from the local public school this year and it has been the best decision we have ever made. My daughter was shy and intimidated to try sports or anything out of her comfort zone. The teachers and the school community were so welcoming and encouraging -- This year she sang a solo in the the holiday show, played (and loved) field hockey, ice hockey and lacrosse and has become confident in herself as a young woman. My son thought of himself as an athlete, and academics and the arts were just not cool for a middle schooler. With Upland's full participation program, he discovered that he was more than an athlete, though he is still excelling in sports. He found an interest in and talent for art and, because of the encouragement of his outstanding teachers, he enjoys school and even made the honor roll for the first time. I am so proud of and happy about the growth and confidence in my children because of their Upland experience!

Upland has been a great place for my three children to grow and learn. They got a well rounded education with challenging immersion in all areas: academics, arts, science, athletics. The teachers at Upland seem to be able to find the strengths in each child and help them to build on those strengths while developing in all areas. All three went on to successful high school experiences, one to public, the other two to private schools. They were well prepared for the rigours of 10th grade, and more independent than many of their new classmates. They learned to be excited about learning and not just about getting a good grade. I can't think of a better place to begin to love learning.

Upland is a wonderful environment for learning and they instill a love of learning that children take with them long after they leave. We had multiple children graduate from Upland. One went on to public school, and two went on to other independent schools. None of them had to repeat 9th grade and they all agree Upland played a huge roll in their secondary and colligate successes. It is unfortunate that some parents hide behind anonymous reviews in order to grind an axe they might have with the school. Don't take our word for it - visit the school and form your own opinion. You won't be dissappointed.

Upland has been great for my kids. A small environment, wonderful opportunities, great teachers and leadership. I know a school can't make everyone happy, but this school has been great for us and I would recommend it to friends and family.

Upland is based on clicks and politics. They constantly have their hands extremely money based; are notorious for bullying situations in which they choose to turn the other cheek. They claim to be "Quaker' based...bah. Too bad they cannot seem to get it together, it is a nice campus. The art department is better than public but the music department is seriously lacking.

OMG - just found out that some of our best students have to repeat their 9th grade once they "graduate" Upland. What are we paying 10 years of tuition for????

Upland is a great little school. People spend too much time talking about the public schools in the area, and they miss out on this special place to have their kids educated. Challenging academics, great opportunities, and friendly people. A hidden gem!

It would be difficult to find a school better than Upland with respect to administration, teachers, and academic programs. Upland's greatest weakness is its very homogeneous student population which is over represented by the very affluent.

If you are looking for a school with great academics, athletics, arts and attitude, Upland should be on your list to visit. My wife and I couldn't be happier with the education and experiences our children have received. The faculty are engaging and the setting is reminiscent of a simpler time. In addition to the academics, children are challenged daily to step out of their comfort zones through the philosophy of full participation. They can not blend in and tune out. Great school!

This school is a breath of fresh air. Nurturing the whole student. Academics are not the entire focus (although the students consistently test in the upper %ages nationally), producing aware, compassionate and driven students are. These kids are positively reinforced and their self esteem shows it. Excellent School. I have 3 very happy kids there.

We have found Upland to be a warm and inviting school for our child. Upland has found the balance between compassion and discipline.

  • Why Upland? Because of the unique elements of our curriculum Because of our full participation philosophy, and our “Four A’s” Because of our commitment to finding the spark in each child and to helping every child learn how he/she learns best Because of our beautiful country campus Because of our small classes and dedicated faculty who care deeply about children. But mostly because of the spirit and values that we live every day in our classrooms, our athletic fields and our art studios Because we educate the whole child with the belief that a bright future cannot rest on an incomplete foundation And because we believe that our students never leave Upland; it is always a part of them, and they are always a part of us. Welcoming Setting When people first drive onto Upland’s campus, they often tell us their first impression is sense of belonging. Surrounded by our beautiful 23 acres of green fields and woods, a nurturing faculty works with students, and a lifetime of learning begins. Full Participation At Upland we structure each day around the “Four A’s,” the concept defining our program. Our first “A,” Attitude, is about positive relationships and consideration of others and is based on our motto “Understanding, Trust and Responsibility.” Attitude informs the other three “A’s,” which are Academics, Arts, and Athletics. The second “A,” the academic program, provides a strong foundation for further education. The final two “A’s,” the arts and athletic programs, are designed to provide opportunities for students to explore and develop their talents. Young people at Upland learn about themselves through the work they do in and out of the classroom. By requiring participation in all aspects of school life, students gain experiences that can awaken in them passions that were previously unacknowledged.
