There is a little academic challenge of the students who attend the intermediate school. SMATH is a joke and the kids will tell you this themselves. Basically a couple kids do the work and complete the packets and the rest of the kids copy the information. The gifted program offers no challenge or enhanced academic programming for those kids identified and if you are not an idependent learner, you simply don't get the attention you need from the teachers.

Pequea Intermediate Schools curriculm has been on a decline for over two years now. The adoption of SMATH (Science and Math) combined has resulted in extremely large class sizes and a 46 to 1 ratio of students to each teacher. The district definitely needs to raise the bar with the teachers requirements in order to see improved standardized testing scores. I remain optimistic that things will improve this year.

Pequea Valley Intermediate has been a disappointment for my sixth grade child. The curriculm is unsupervised, especially with the combination of science and math into one course with one teach for nearly 50 children. The children are not receiving the needed science and math instruction which is clearly resulting in declining state tests each year at Pequea. The curriculm and staff need to be upgraded to ensure the students education is meeting state levels and requirements consistently and not continuing to decline.
