Pleasant Valley Intermediate School

My child is an A student and has received Distinguished Honors from grades 1st - 6th. So upon moving here, I was very surprised and disappointed to learn that the curriculum at Pleasant Valley School District in general is not up to par. At the Elem. School Level, I was told that there is no Honor Roll bec. it makes the kids who aren't excelling academically feel bad. The HS Principal announced during a recent parent orientation for incoming students that they've come to the conclusion that students score higher on state exams if they take core subjects such as math the whole year as opposed to one quarter of the year (which is how they were doing it). Seriously?! At PVI, the teachers are unprofessional, lack sufficient training and experience, don't have a handle on their classrooms/students, and resort to handing out disciplinary referrals for the slightest thing, i.e. talking. The Principals are even less effective at doing their jobs. The school is more focused on sports rather than academics and this seems to be the case throughout the school district. A 5 & 6 rating for these schools are extremely generous. I have withdrawn my child and enrolled him into Agora Cyber School.

I love this school. Excellent curriculum and teaching. The students and teachers are respectful. There are few problems and those are resolved quickly.

I really didn't like this school. There were way too many people and for a shy person it's intimidating. They are really focused on sports and not other extra curricular activities... Some of the teachers were really nice but some were also horrible and mean. For example: If I didn't understand something, they wouldn't really help me. They would just tell me it again and think I'd understand. The lunch food is horrible, and they started a dress code last year. You could only wear school colors and polos, and no jeans. A lot of the kids around the area don't have a lot of money and the dress code clothes are expensive. I thought it caused more teasing because people would talk about the kid who always wears the same pants and shirt. 5th grade was the only good grade there.

Pleasant Valley Intermediate School is one of the best, if not the best, schools I have ever been to. Excellent classes, wonderful teachers, and the support for years to come are just some of the many qualities this school offers. Students are never left out and they are always a top priority in Pleasant Valley. Pleasant Valley Intermediate School is an inspiring school for anyone who walks through it's doors.

'In the old days' the teachers and office staff dressed and conducted themselves in a professional manner.They were treated with the respect due a professional. The teacher led by example. Student safety was a given and discipline was administered fairly and equally to all students. Sadly, this is not the case here. Subject matter is not up to par; and the quality of education suffers for it.

I have been in the district for about 5 years now and have kids in 2 schools. The Pleasant Valley School district is way to overcrowed! The taxes are very high for homeowners. Also, this year they went to school uniforms. The elementary schools are good. Its the secondary schools that lag behind. My kids previously went to Wilson School, and when we moved up here the school was way behind in teaching. My kids were learning what they alrealdy learned. Wake up pleasant valley it really time for a change!

My children have been going to this school for over a year and I am pretty impressed. Compared to Jim Thorpe School District this school is sooo much better considering the quick growth in this general area. Keep up the good work!!!

Class sizes exceeding 30 students per class. Administration does not address conduct of the teachers here. The 'No Bullying' policy is a joke. Not only ares students bullied by other students, without repercussion, but by teachers, as well, who degrade students in front of their peers without provocation. When this issue was presented, no response was given from administration. Very poor communication overall. I am disgusted with the school and look forward to moving out of the district or homeschooling. It sickens me to think that my tax dollars provide salaries to these ineffective 'educators'.

My son is currently in this school and I must say that the teachers are good. However, the staff is hard to deal with.

I have had a child in this school for 3 years and am very happy with disciplinary actions, teachers and curriculum. Strictness needs to be enforced to keep order and I have not disapproved of any actions that have had to be taken to demand respect and trust in the teachers. School sports do not start until 7th grade that is why there are no after-school sports activities, but there are plenty of sports teams for the district. Including but not limited to soccer, wrestling, football, basketball and others offered to children in first through sixth grades. I currently have one child in sixth grade and another a senior in the high school and am totally satisfied with the level of education they are receiving.

Class size is well over 25 students per teacher. School system too strict with petty items. No after school activity transportation (no late buses). Not enough after school sport activities. Some items are inappropriate for grade level (ex. all Reports for 4th grade up must be in MLA format). There seems to be a power trip in this school district. Teachers and Principles act as if they can dictate.
