I recently moved to the Leechburg District and recently enrolled my 8 year old in the third grade. My son has a disablity and requires special education services. The staff have been very helpful and compassionate. They have a great supplemental learning, speech and language support progam. My son was welcomed with open arms and the staff have been the utmost helpful. The students receive more one on one attention due to the low number of students enrolled. The secretary appears to know each student as if the children were her own. The PTO not only encorages but welcomes parent involvement. The academic grading schedule is somewhat higher but that encorages the children to work and learn harder. I am very pleased and fortunate that my children are enrolled in the district. I would highly recommend the entire school district to anyone.

For first grade I think this school is too tough. They get letter grades already and on a very tough scale, a 69 is an F, you need an 84 for the lowest B. The program is good overall but why have this grading scale when the % is really all that is looked at. A first grader with a 70% average is only 1% away from failing and crushing him at such an early age I don't think helps anyone.

I went to Leechburg as a child, and the one great thing about it is that it is very small and personalized. Everyone knows everyone and it kind of makes you feel safer than you would in a big school. Extracurricular activities are not abundant, but some things are more important. I know my kids have names at their school, they are not just 'numbers'.
