The teachers and academic programs are excellent in this school district. However, it is very difficult to overcome the lack of leadership. The building administration will say one thing in a meeting and turn around and say they never said it! It is a very confusing environment for children. We opted for a private school in the area. The families in the area are also quite arrogant and rude.

Peters is a good school, yeah kids can be close minded, but its like that everywhere. The excellent education you will receive can't be measured. If you are truly dedicated to succeed you most definitely will. And as far as not fitting in, i moved here in fourth grade, and at first i didn't fit in, but in middle school and beyond i found my niche. It takes everyone a little bit of time to find their comfort zone and the people you connect with. Also, if you want to make friends, you will. If someone is just quiet sitting there in class all day with their head down, why would someone approach you? If you have a good attitude you will make friends easily here.

I would advise any parent to keep their child away from this school. From personal experience, I found that the parents and students have a tendency to be closed minded. It has been seen that parents are not as dedicated to the education of their children as one would think they should be. The administration has a considerable amount of disfunction, which causes much tention between faculty and staff. I believe that if you are a parent considering this school district, you should speak to everyone, including the local authorities, before enrolling!

I guess this school could be considered a good school for people who have lived here all of their life. Personally, I have moved many times and this has been the worst school. Students are normally only accepted if they have always been here and have the family ties. You can easily spot out the kids who have moved here. Mostly everyone is closed minded, along with the teachers. If your son/daughter is entering in kindergarten or first grade then peters might be a great place for you, but if it's any later then your child will be mostly ignored by the kids and the staff.

This is a very good School District. There are Several activities for Students To get involved in. For example if you are in to computers PTHS has a computer club, and they also have several academic courses to choose from including several AP courses

we left this high school after only a few months. this was the worst experience of our lives. our chidlren were completely ignored by the admin and teachers. teachers only cater to those they know. very small town thinking. limited ap/honors classes, limited clubs. only athletes are favored. no parental involvement. avoid at all costs. avoid pittsburgh in general.

Overall, I think that the school is very good. However, my son has a learning disability and we've experienced some difficulty in getting his IEP on track with some of the teachers and administrative staff. Specifically, additional learning support in unstructured classes and OVR and OT. More inclusion of children with special needs and more empathy by the student body. Perhaps a class to teach how to be considerate/tolerant of others.

I've had two sons at PTHS and couldn't be happier. There's no catering to the lowest common denominator. They push for excellence. There's an incredibly strong music program. The huge selection of AP courses includes AP music theory (my older son entered college as a sophomore due to all the AP credits he earned). It's a mostly white, preppy atmosphere, but my long-haired, counter-cultural son is popular and happy there. It's a welcoming place. The teachers really care. I've had letters and phone calls from them complementing my sons' work and behavior. There's been some strange political stuff with the principal, but it hasn't affected the quality of education. A great district!
