This school allows bullying. Many children have come forward about the harassment and tirment that goes on in this school & nothing gets done. It was said by staff that the laptops are used to help students self teach.... its ridiculouse !!! Also special needs childten or those with i.e.p's lack support. Its more about sports than education

This school is unfair and the staff is more of a bully than the students. I have an IEP and most of the teachers don't take that into consideration when teaching. It's not only students with IEPs that don't understand the work. One teacher told my class and I that during the pass period it's to ask questions, not to teach us and that's why we have the laptops. The 11th and 12th gym teacher is mean to everyone but the students that do tennis, the sport that she choaches. Both of the principals don't care about us when it comes to bullying. They always say, "We'll look into it" but it's not true. Teachers use curse words towards us, talks about other students, and do NOT teach us anything! I would never let my child go here! The school is a joke and so are the staff. If you seen the yearbook this year you seen that there are labels and a "Hot or Not" section. That's bullying and I think everyone should see how this school treats their students.

This school is awful, If you have an IEp they dont care they`ll still move on, in math- 3.2 is due monday and 3.1 was due friday and 3.3 is due wednesday I would not send anybody at this school Greencastle is way better, JB could improve by slowing things down and consider some people need help and that were all gonna fail if they keep this up

I am the same parent that submitted the May 2010 reveiw, and I have to admit that my opinion has taken a 180 degree turn. Mr. Benedick, Mr. Burkett and fix JB have worked very hard to make a school that the students, along with their parents, can be proud of. It has become a great learning environment. The building has had a makeover, The cafeteria menu has a selection of good food, the learning is being taken into the 21st century with some students being assigned laptops and ipads available to use. There is also a wide variety of extra activities for students.

Having watched the school for years from other schools in the district and now assigned there, I find my opinion changed greatly. The principal/assistant principl team of Mr. Benedick & Mr. Burkett have greatly changed the atmosphere to the positive. While it will never be like Mr. Rahauser's "JB Proud" Middle School, some of those worthy elements and past training are now becoming obvious in the school. I enjoy working there now whereas before I walked into the building with a certain dread. The music department is especially strong and vibrant.

The school building is undergoing a complete renovation and the Athletic Boosters are raising funds to repair the athletic venues. Very positive things are happening in the district.

This school is just semi-good. Very old school with horrible damage. No heat or air conditioning, leaky roof..just a mess. The teachers are fair. You have some that are just amazing people and some that are the complete oposite. Food stinks. Academics are o.k. Don't offer many extra classes, really just the basics. Over all just an o.k. school, nothing more. Sinks don't work in the bathrooms...it really is dreadful.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Pennsylvania used the Pennsylvania System of State Assessments (PSSA) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 11 in math and reading, in grades 5, 8 and 11 in writing, and in grades 4, 8 and 11 in science. The results for reading, writing, science and math are displayed on GreatSchools profiles. The PSSA is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Pennsylvania. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.
