Citizens of Juniata County have voted to underfund the school district. In May 2011 a referendum would have raised property taxes costing ,on average, about $18 a month. It was soundly defeated. Unless there is a last minute bailout by the state, Juniata will hve no kindergarten, no agricultural ed., no business ed., no band, no sports teams at all in the 2011-20012 school year. Per pupil expenditures are #500 of the 501 school districts. The County has not been reassessed in 30 years!

Juniata High School, in my opinion, is a detestable school. I'm guessing that the parent who said that it is an 'excellent' school where 'children come first' is either a teacher or a staff member. No one in the right mind would say those things about Juniata if they really knew how the students are treated. Now don't get me wrong, some of the teachers are very committed to the students. However, I cannot say the same about anyone in the office. I have never in my life met a group of people with the lack of respect for parents and students as these people do. It is shameful to witness just how unpleasant and uncooperative they really are, not to mention how untrustworthy. As a student actively involved in sports, NHS, and Key Club, I speak for the entire student body when I say that things need to change, desperately!

Bullying is a major problem in our school and when the issue is brought up to the teachers, bus drivers or principal it is ignored. It effects not only their grades and school life but their life at home and their future. No one in the School seems to care.

Sports, and extracurricular activities are very important, with many great coaches. They are so good that they interfere with learning. My son played sports and when I asked that he have Gym last period, so he wouldn't miss any vital classes, like Algebra II or Biology, I was told, I was told the classes could not be changed. So, his choices were not to play, or play and miss math or science classes. I lot of the teachers were very hard working, but not all. This school district doesn't like to spend a lot of money either, and they don't want the parents at the school, except for parent-teacher conferences. I have heard the principal screaming at people while in the office.
