My children have attended Greenwood Friends School for 8 years, since Preschool for our oldest. The program is impressive. This is better than anything I could have offered my kids with a homeschool. It is like homeschooling with classmates and fanastic teachers. Check out the school: www.greenwood-friends.org You can't afford not too. My children are blooming here and will continue.
My son is currently enrolled at Greenwood Friends in the Primary program. He's highly gifted, and we were attracted to Greenwood because of its 'teaming' concept--grades are clustered together (ie. K, 1, 2 are together in 2 classrooms) so that students can move freely between classes based on their talents. At most schools, my son would be bored (he started reading at 2, and read full books by 3). However, he comes home everyday, bursting with excitement about what he did that day at Greenwood. The school is a small one, but it has an excellent teacher student ratio, and they seemed really attuned to his academic needs. I have nothing but praise for this excellent school. The staff is wonderful, and truly committed to providing a challenging but loving environment for learning.
We are the parents of two girls who graduated from Greenwood Friends. We feel their transition to public senior high school and then to college occurred smoothly as a result of the solid education and self-discipline gained at the school. Their teachers were all guides to learning instead of authority figures. This allowed our daughters to accept their public school teachers as allies in learning. The processes of consensus and conflict resolution followed at Greenwood helped them to confront problems, solve them, and move on to new challenges. They mention often how thankful they are to have had the Greenwood experience.
