West ASD has a great curriculum and deserves 4 stars, this school, however is lacking. Firstly, the have great art, music, PE, swimming, computer and library classes but to fit this all in you have to manage a 6 day rotation with A and B weeks, very confusing especially when you start throwing in snow days. Secondly, they are very inflexible, they do not allow parents to volunteer in classrooms or the library (even with appropriate clearances), no lunches with the kids either. This really discourages parental involvement. Lastly, this in an open concept building so if your kid has difficulties concentrating, you will find yourself getting extra homework and missed "fun projects" and a teary kid to boot. The few times I have been invited to the classroom (party, PT meeting, open house) I have found the noise level near unbearable. Teachers will even admit to having to stop lessons and do other activites until the noise level subsides because they can't hear themselves speak (or think for that matter). Teachers, for the most part are amazing and make this place work.

This school was amazing for my sons and family! It had everything you could ask for from the teachers to the counselors to the nurse and the excellant PTO. I am very sad to leave if we were staying in the state I would commute my kids their if I could :)

Academically I feel they offer a lot of programs, however I feel the curriculum and guidelines far exceeds what the children really need to know. The children are pushed beyond their abilities, therefore becoming anxious and frustrated. They offer special classes of music art, gym, swimming, library and computers. A lot of the extracurricular activities aren't necessarily through the school but they offer what is available in the community but state that the activity is not sponsored by the West Allegheny School District.
