I am so happy that my grandchildren are attending S. S. Palmer Elementary School! The quality of the education that they are receiving is far and above what I expected from a small-town school. The teachers are amazing. They give so much of themselves, and receive little, if any, recognition or thanks from the administration or school board. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the teachers who have had my grandchildren as their students. You are the best! I now understand why my grandchildren love going to school. They are learning so much more than 'just the curriculum'. They are being educated and prepared, even at their young ages, to be the very best they can be, and are developing a lifelong love of learning. Thank you, teachers!
i love the atmosphere that this school encompasses it self in. Although, i do agree with some of the other parents, there is just too much homework. Especially in the reading and math departments. Science! What science? I can only recall one night in the past four months of sitting down and helping my girls do their homework of ever seeing anything to do with science. Maybe the teachers keep all that fun stuff in house. regardless, compared to the Allentown school district this is Harvard. My oldest child from another marraige attends Allentown and is four grade levels above my girls at S.S. Palmer, but she seems to be the one trying to keep up with my kids in Palmerton. Beyond the social aspects and differences the one common tread seems to be the teachers. So, bravo to the teachers in Palmerton. A-Town can't compare.
We do not send our children to school to be 'taken care of' we send them there to get a quality well-rounded education. A third grader with two hours of homework is not developmentally appropriate at all. Science is important. They need to be learning about nature and physical science. That is the cool curriculum that is going to keep them interested in school. This is such an injustice being done to our children's education and we have parent's happy they are taken care of during the day. What a shame. Lisa Zupa
I have a 3rd grader and a kindergartener, I do like the small town feel of the school, but it seems to me and other parents I talk to, they are only teaching to pass your child through the PSSA tests. My 3rd grader is only getting 20 min. of science a week. But he has math and reading everyday, and then 2 hours of homework a night. The new math curriculum is insane, again, teaching only for the PSSA test. My children do, however, love their teachers and I always feel comfortable sending them off to school each day knowing they will be taken care of.
As a parent of a third grade student and an upcoming kindergarten student, I feel that the S.S. Palmer is staffed with highly educated teachers and staff. They provide my child with an excellent education.
I think this school is a very well educated school an that the teachers here are awesome and also that the school has very intelligant teachers and students! The sixth grade students are very well behaved to! If I were giving this school stars and rated it I would rate it at 10! And give it 5 stars!
Somethings concerning the teachers. The amount of homework. Why kindergarten is only a half day, yet other schools go all day.
