Really NOT worth the money! My son had a teacher who spent all her time on her phone! It's over-crowded and they really need to take the Catholic off the door becasue they are the least Catholic people I have ever met.
As a student transferring from a co-ed school I was not very impressed. I had heard about "how great of a school it is". I did get involved in sports and clubs when i got there, but still the kids weren't very accepting. It was more of a "why did you even transfer" attitude. There is no "school spirit" feeling. It feels like all work and no play. My high school i transferred from had fun events going on(field trips, dress down days, talent show, spirit night, etc..). Roman didn't do anything fun like that. Teachers were OK. Nothing spectacular. Save your money. It's not really worth it.
Absolutely fantastic. Roman provides a supportive environment for growth while challenging students with advanced curriculum. I daresay, based the previous reviews, that the Roman experience is not for all young men, but personally I would not have been happy anywhere else. Excellent staff, challenging and innovative courses. My only personal complaint was about the size; the administration wants to enlarge the student body, but the building is the same size! The addition of the annex building has helped, but a little more elbow room would have been fantastic. Otherwise, nearly flawless. And "fowl" language? Come on; its an ALL BOYS school, what would you expect?!
I have never been so disappointed in anything in my entire life. Athletics are really strong, and was really the only saving grace. They really do rally the boys together, and the camaraderie amoung them is a beautiful thing. Academically, however, it's another story. If your son is a VERY good student, I'm sure he'll be fine.... but a good solid "B" student will find he will not be prepared for college. Teachers: a few REALLY great ones, but most (MOST) of the teachers our son has had have been WAY below expectations. Most of the teachers use fowl language with the boys (in a casual manner)..I'm no prude, but school is not the place for this! Shop around. Save up for private school..you'll be better off!
When I began research on high schools in the seventh grade, I had convinced myself that a private, prep school would be the best choice. Roman is just as good and, dare I say it, or better than every other school. The academics are superb, the athletics excellent, the faculty and staff are second to none in their respective fields. Before attending Catholic High, I was quite shy; now, I am able to speak and perform in front of people. It gave me so many opportunities. I love it; it's my second home.
This is the beginning of my 8th year as a Roman parent. I have enjoyed everyday of every year. Both of our sons chose Roman and not only did they receive an excellent education but we became closer as a family. We attend many Roman events as a family.
Sending our son to Roman was the best decision we've ever made. Roman has an almost intangible qualtiy that is best described as honor and brotherhood. The quality of the academics is second to none-our son got into his first choice school, which was a prestigious one. Also-several of his friends at Roman got into Ivy League schools. The teachers are extremely dedicated and have high expectations for the students. Roman has every sport available in the Catholic league-they even have a crew team! The parental involvement is high, and the parents are nice, friendly people. If you desire a strong academic environment and have high expectations for your son, Roman is for you. This truly is the best value in a Catholic education.
Truly a great experience. After graduating from there, I was fully prepared for college and really came away with a firm belief in the value of single-sex education.
My son plays ice hockey for the middle school ice hockey program and they have the best program any parent could ask for. I am so proud that my son represents such a great Catholic High school. The coaches are terrific with our kids. The values they instill in my young man are wonderful and when he gets accepted to highschool at Roman his youth will be complete.
Roman Catholic High School's academic program is one of the best I have been through. Their structured core curriculum gives their students an equal opportunity to be well rounded in the academic field. As a current student now at Drexel University, Roman Catholic High School has prepared me well for the vigorous schedule that I have at Drexel. Roman has a great music program that hosts a variety of events year round. Their art program remains relevant and a strong part in student's lives. Sports is one of the biggest things at Roman. Roman is one of the few schools that offers every sport available in the Catholic League. From tennis to footbal to swimming, Roman has a sport for everyone. Parental involvement does not cease to end at Catholic High with its Mother's Club and Father's Club hosting a variet of meetings and activities.
Roman is more than a Historical Site, it is a family-oriented enviorment which has continued to install the importance of family values and self-esteem resolution into their regularf currilum. This is shown by the respect that's given to the students by their teachers, superiors, coaching staff and other staff members and vice versa. Because most of the school support is provided by its alumni, the parents remain involved in their children's years at the schoool and continue to support the alumni for years to follow. The academic programs are very well selected for each students personal needs. The music department has remained a favorite throughout the years since my brother was a drum major in 1978. Several generations of my family have gone to Roman Catholic and Hallahan High and I highly recommend both schools.
I had the pleasure to attend this school and be there as a senior for its 100th year celebration in 1990. It has set the groundwork for my future success from day one.
What makes me mad that this school can be a really great school. Roman is a school that places great emphasis on sports than on academics. I was not prepared when I went to college, I had teach myself a lot in college.
