I'm a graduate of LF and I urge anyone even thinking about sending their daughter here to not buy the hype and avoid this place like the Plague - even their Open Houses. I wish I had a choice in my day to go to another high school because if I had, Little Flower wouldn't have been a thought to me. Teachers and administrators play favorites, the academics are substandard in every sense of the word, the neighborhood has been horrible for years and continues getting worse, and the extra-curricular activities aren't much. Most of all, this school does not teach anything that students can take with them into the real world. Things are so desperate at this school that they've even taken to form an Alumnae School Band and invite every generation of gradates to every school function (I'm surprised they don't hold an Alumnae Prom at this rate). For whatever reason, these people believe they're the only ones around with "school spirit." That can be found anywhere. I learned nothing of value at this school and I see nothing has changed.
I am currently a student at Little Flower and we are truly a family. As soon as I steeped into those doors , it felt like home . It was my first time in a catholic school , coming from public school LF made my transition very smooth and comfortable ! The neighborhood respects the school, no incidents have occurred with the school and neighborhood. The environment also gives girls a chance to see different backgrounds and LF is very mixed as on cultural wise , which I believe is great !
I am a 2012 graduate of Little Flower and I can honestly say that attending Little Flower was a great choice. The teachers are wonderful and always there to help in any way that they can. It's a shame, truly, that most parents look down on the school because of the location. The school provides Septa buses that drop you off right in front of the school so there's really no need to worry. I always felt safe at that school and they're always practicing drills so if anything, God forbid, did happen, everyone would be prepared. Also, I believe that this school is great academically. I was constantly being challenged but it was worth it. I am now attending Temple University in my first semester and am doing extremely well thanks to Little Flower. Although the teachers and academics are amazing, I would have to say that the spirit is really the best part of the school. Mostly every girl at the school adores it and really takes pride in it. The girls are also extremely nice and accepting; you won't be able to find that at Ryan or Hubert's. If you're looking for a great catholic high school then you should choose Little Flower. It really is an amazing school. Forever we will be true!
I am a former student of Little Flower. I graduated in 2006. It is true that the neighborhood is not what it used to be when my mother attended, and she was worried about me attending there alone. Even with this, I could never picture myself at any other place. I had many choices when it came to choosing a high school. I was given the option of any catholic school in the city, and Little Flower was furthest from my list because I knew everyone who attended. I wanted a change. Yet, I attended many open houses and none of them stayed with me like LF did. I decided to go to their last Open house for the year, and it felt like home. I will never forget the years I spent there with people I talk to, even to this day. The neighborhood is bad, yes, but LF takes all precautions to make sure your child is not walking around aimlessly in such a neighborhood. Not to mention, The people in the neighborhood aren't that bad. I grew up in another part of the city and would meet friends after school in that neighborhood. Either way, please allow your daughters to enjoy the experience of being in such an amazing and loving school with a wonderful community of people to support their girls.
I currently attend Little Flower high school, and I love it. I thought there was going to be a lot of drama in the school but was surprised when everyone welcomed me with open hands. In Little Flower , we are like one big family, and we welcome everyone to our school.
I am a current student at Little Flower, and i love it. It challenges me just enough, and it makes me feel at home. The teachers are great. I truly feel prepared for college, considering my previous teachers showed me how to compose an essay properly. This is an amazing school, and i highly recommend it.
We are almost to the middle of my daughter's freshman year, and I am still unsure of my feelings. As a parent we have he right to say where she can go and where she can't go because of the neighborhood. I agree with the other users, It is in a bad neighborhood. I feel uneasy about her taking the bus to and from school everyday especially on yesterdays snow day when the tripper buses were not available on the 2 hour delay. My daughter's safety comes first and foremost. I agree they have wonderful teachers, however I do feel she is not being academically challenged enough. We are waiting out the year and see what 2nd part of the year will bring. At this moment, their is a chance of transferring.
I am a recent graduate of Little Flower, and as I look back on my four years there, I could not imagine a better school to have graduated from. Little Flower is it's own little community, even more then that, it's a family. Never have I felt more safe and comfortable at a school. The adminastration, teachers, staff, and students just make you feel at home as soon as you walk in the door. People always put LF down becasue of the neighborhood that it's in, but they couldn't be more wrong, and for all those parents who don't send their girls to LF because of that reason, it's a shame becasue their girls are really missing out on what would be the best four years of thier lives. I met my best friends at LF, my true friends. Going to LF was not only was good academically, but it was also good for my overall character as a person, I learned how to be myself and not to try and be someone I'm not to impress other people. My four years there helped me academically, and with self-confidence issues. To me, and i know many others, LF is the best school around. Forever We'll Be True!
The administration is the absolute best. I'd love to name all the great people but I'd have to list everybody. This is a school filled with spirit and passion. If you're looking for an all girls catholic education for your daughter, look no further then LF. It's not the oldest all girls school in Philadelphia but it's the best!
I am a parent of two recent graduates of LF and plan to send their younger siblings there when the time comes. The experience we have at the school is nothing short of marvelous. Our two LF grads ranked at the top of their classes and were challenged to work hard in their AP courses. The hard work paid off as both were offered appealing scholarships from a variety of Universities. However, it is the day to day life at LF that is the truly amazing quality the school offers. The spirit at the school is extraordinary and the girls really love attending and work hard to succeed. The faculty themselves are knowledgeable in their fields and are energetic in having the girls go that extra mile to surpass expectations. The school itself is beautiful and immaculate. Their traditions are plentiful and the girls themselves are very protective of them. .
I highly recommend this school for the parents that want to give their daughter a single sex education. Many reasons why: no boy distractions except for the handful of foreign exchange students, the teachers care and are highly qualified. Sister Donna(now President of the school) was one of my English teachers and one of the many reasons why I have a BA in English/communications. The school is excellent in preparing the students for college. Excellent in teaching them to be an upholding citizen, young lady. Wonderful Guidance dept, helped me w/ college apps, tours of colleges, excellent support system for expecting teenage mothers as well. The school is all about commitment, family, integrity and lastly a wonderful education.
My daughter is completing her freshman year at Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls in Phialdelphia. I have an advantage in comparing it to other Diocesan High Schools since my oldest daughter graduated from another school in the Diocese. Little Flower (LF) is a school where there is a tremendous amount of school spirit that I think may be unrivaled today, considering the overall temperament of today's teenagers. My first exposure to this was at the Catholic League Girls Soccer Championship two years ago. The girls from LF won the game, but I cannot remember the score or who they played. All I can remember are the goosebumps I felt when the students present to cheer on the team poured onto the field after the game to surround their victorious classmates, and at the tops of their lungs, sing their alma mater. Goosebumps.
Fabulous school that allows your daughter to develop the skills to be a strong individual and a leader. She will have the support and guidance to do what she wants to do and will not have the distractions of boys. She learns what is important to her and not what is important to others.
I'm one of 5 girls, all of who went to Little Flower and had great experiences there. When it was time for my daughter to go to High School, I was excited to sent her to LF. Little Flower is a great school. The teachers are amazing. (Especially Mr. Kuhl-who sees what a student is capable of and opens their eyes to it as well.) The school is more that a place to go and learn - it is a family. The administration is top-notch and everyone from the principle to the ladies that work in the lunch room seen happy to be there everyday. That really helps to 'set the tone'. Little Flower graduates go on to recieve thousands of dollars in grants and scholarships, but more importantly they come out of Little Flower with a solid foundatio & an understanding of the world around them. Orever we'll be true!
I was a member of the Little Flower Class of 2003, and I believe that LF is an excellent educational institute. They have a faculty and staff that are willing to go above and beyond the call of duty for the students. LF is equipped to teach students with extraordinary intelligence as well as those students that are struggling. Little Flower also offers an excellent ESOL program for foreign exchange students.
I love Little Flower. I love every minute I was in school there. Everyone was so nice and friendly. I am so happy that I went to Little Flower because it changed my life for the best. It taught me the lessons of life.
I have a daughter who graduated from Little Flower, and I would like to say, I am very happy I sent her there. Hopefully her sister will also attend Little Flower next year. This is a wonderful school....it offers many valuable assets it has a great staff who are always available. The support my daughter received has helped her to become the responsible person she is today. She is in her second year of nursing and has made me very proud. I know Little Flower has played a big part in her reaching her future goals. I know I made a good choice when I sent her to Little Flower.
Great school for girls who wish to enjoy their high school years without the pressure of boys, or who just wish to share in some sisterly bonding with each other and with the friendly faculty and staff.
