The school has increased enrollment giving other children more opportunities to attend a good school. As a city school, their test scores are excellent. My children have done very well at this school.
My kids go to this school, It's a very safe school. Not to mention my kids have fun going to school because of the way they teach.
My daughter is entering her third year at PPACS. As a family we love the school and can't wait for my son to enter. That being said PPACS is a choice you make as a family and if your looking for the full experience be prepared to put in the effort. We have had nothing but good experiences with all the staff here. If you are sending your child for the special classes be prepared to follow through as a parent. Yes we have had to put time in to understanding a violin to help our daughter practice, learning ballet to make sure positions are correct, and having to thoroughly practice French at home. Theses were efforts we had to make as a family and it was a big adjustment but it was something we did as part of our commitment in sending our daughter to a school we felt was on par with educational, community, and moral ideals.
Do not send your children here. What they preach & what they practice are polar opposite. Their leadership is deplorable. And they are getting away with it all because the city schools are a mess.
My Kindergartner is reading, writing simple sentences, solving math problems and learning the arts. Academically, my child is thriving at PPACS. Some of the problems the schools has comes from the administration. To me, they seem to make quick decision without thinking of the impact on parents. However, PPACS is a fairly a new school and they are working through some of this problems. I couldn't be happier about choosing to send my child to PPACS. As a parent, you want your child to become a well-rounded individual, and I feel PPACS helps develop my child to strive long after his departure.
My daughter is coming to this school on September. Really excited and believe she will flourish here. I encourage administrators to add Spanish to the curriculum as a second language alternative I believe our children will navigate more effectively in American culture where the number spanish population is growing
This school is absolutely horrible. There is no male teachers or administrators which is concerning. The teachers are never available and the children are forced to do ballet without being able to pick. Also they teach French which is not used much in business marketing, or social services. So what are they really preparing the children for???The school is located on Broad Street which is extremely dangerous for many reason and the building is unwelcoming and unfriendly structurally. The building sits on top of the El Station and the children hear it throughout their day. Removing my children after only 1 year.
String Theory school are growing too fast and the quality is suffering. There is no excuse for the low level art teachers that are being hired considering how many art teachers are unemployed these days. The school would do well to stop rampant nepotism and hire teachers and staff based on their credentials, not who went to which catholic school, or how long you've lived in Philadelphia. The concept of the school is excellent and my daughter did received the support she needed, but we witnessed a steep drop in quality in the last couple of years. And the parent who said her child speaks french.. laughable. No conversation french.. number the anthem and other nonsense
PHILADELPHIA PERFORMING ARTS CHARTER SCHOOL is not just a school, it's a community working together to provide not only an excellent education for the children who are blessed to be selected to attend, the school teaches students respect for authority, the school and each other. This should be the model for all schools.
After reading some reviews, I'm going to reconsider enrolling my child in this school. Reading what that student went threw I'm not sending my child!
Just move in to the neighborhood. And heard a lot of good and bad things about this school. Good thing is the school is great in arts, and we are happy to find a good quality art school in neighborhood, since my daughter so in love with arts. Bad thing is my daughter didn't get in because of the lottery system. Well, they said it is a lottery but obviously they pick and choose by the address and race. Unlike some other charter school which they announced the date and time of the lottery so public could attend it. There is one certain area where all the rich one live, have all their children enroll in this school, Obvious? Sigh.. Next time just put a sign stated what race and zipcode are you accepted, so we don't waste our time waiting..
I love this school I got in didn't know anyone but everyone was so welcoming. The principle was really nice and this school has a good curriculum. I was a art major and had a good time even though I was only there for 2 years 5th and 6th still my brother, sister, and I loved it. We wished we would've stayed but we had to move to NC now we barely even like going to school. I strongly recommend this school. P.S don't listen to the people who say that you got to know someone to get in this school because my family didn't know anyone in this school
I have a kindergartener at PPACS and am extremely pleased with the curriculum for Grade K. I am also pleased with how the school keeps parents informed with what is going on within the school walls.
I do agree with the parent that said , you need to know someone there. My daughter has been in performing arts since2009 and it made no difference. And yes I know someone personally that got there three kids in just this august. It should be based on academic and arts achevments. At least a start.
It is a miracle. I have 2 students there now a d 2 that have graduated high school. What splendor comes from this school. It keeps me crying with joy about all they do
I have tried my kids in previous schools, and none compare to what I have found at PPACS. When I put my kids in PPACS, the level of security was amazing. The happiness that my children was missing, return to them very quickly. My kids finally brought text books home! The extra curriculum activities such as music, dance, vocals, chess club, and homework club just put the icing on the cake. All of my children has finally experience greatness. I wish every child could experience a great school, hardworking teachers,a phenomenon staff, safe environment and a quality education that my children experience every day at Philadelphia Performing Arts Charter School. PPACS you rock!!!!!!!!
Your kid will only get accepted into this school if you know any members of the staff other than that you can forget about it which is really unfair.
Unlike most reviews on this website I was a student who went here NOT a parent so I really know what goes on in this school. The teachers pass around gossip like they are all students and when students are in an environment that perhaps encourages that they learn to think doing so is okay. I could not stand being in that school for my 7th and 8th grade they were horrible years for me and changed my whole life. However, the music teaching is great. The school also picks on certain kids and they always get in trouble for normal things kids do it's almost as if the teachers like to call parents on purpose and watch the kids suffer. Certain teachers allow kids to cut class. Some teachers are very good but majority of the teachers in this school will pick out favorite students and treat them better than everyone else. The school is such a fake place to be in and its horrible for a kid to grow up surrounded by a bunch of people who try to act like the school is so great but in reality the school is not as great as it seems. The teachers would sometimes talk and make fun of children who were absent with the students who were in that day. Its sick and not as great as people say.
My son is beginning first grade at PPACS. His kindergarten year was both enjoyable and challenging. The workload is heavy but nothing the kids couldn't handle. He came out of kindergarten having studied subjects I never learned until 3rd or 4th grade. LOVED his teachers.
I have my two daughters at PPACS. I am extremely happy with the teachers, the curriculum and the extra activities (ballet, violin, French, vocal, visual art and creative writing). The school culture is wonderful: zero tolerance for bulling and good manners are reinforced. The school is very safe and comforting. The kids are welcomed by the school staff in the morning. The school opens the doors early to accommodate the need of working moms and the principal and teachers are always available.
