Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Unlink other public school, New Media is Culturally Affirming! I've attended the New Media since I was in 6th grade and I am now a Senior. My GPA is 3.3 and I will graduate in 2015! For Students: New Media is a small school and everybody knows everybody. You'll never feel like you won't fit in because the staff at New Media do care! For Parents: New Media has put in place a lot of new policy and is very strict about fights, dress code and attendance. Our new CEO and Principal strive every day to make our school better! Pros: Wednesday students get out at 12:00 noon! This gives us plenty of time to us plenty of time to do HW and other assignments. New Media also has 2 Mac Labs with newest Apple Computers! New Media has great teachers that actually make class challenging. Every day, except Wednesday, the school has morning meetings, we form a huge spiral. Some student feels as though it's a waste of time, but for me, it's a wake up call before class starts! Cons: Yes, New Media can be sometimes disorganized with event planning. It's also a little short on staff, barely find someone to open the bathroom. We don't have no AP courses (only through CCP). Come tour NMTCS & see, Ashe!

I have two sons in this school, one in the 9th grade since 7th, and the other n the 6th grade which is his first year. The staff from the CEO to the teachers are very, very unorganized and the communication is at best barely acceptable. School top staff are very Double Standard when it comes to disciplining thier own. YoU REP what you sew......

I am not a parent of one students. however i visited the school yesterday for their open house for the upcoming year of 2014. What i can say is they have a new prinicipal and he deems like a great principal. he is focused on the schools mission and the students. They are making some provisions and changes to the school. they school even took the time to serve dinner. I would definetely send my child to this school. Dont believe the Hype.

My son has attended this school all of high school. I approve the curriculum. While they are unorganized the college counelor is the worst. The teachers respond almost asap and they provide one on one when needed. My son is absolutely being prepared for college. I am looking forward to his final project. The senior commitee is horrible. The only details sent home so far is the cost of dues.

I am currently a Sophomore at New Media Technology Charter School. I personally find this school, including many of the teachers, horrible. The school is usually very unprepared for things. This year they decided to change the way the semesters/ year would be set up. This includes 4 courses a semester, each class, every single day, is an hour and a half long. The school, although it may have had good intentions, did not take into account that many students would not be able to focus for such a time period, especially in the early morning after our lunch breaks. Having longer time periods causes students to become bored and disruptive making the environment unbearable and harder for the other students to learn. The teachers can't even control their classes, and after a while they usually quit. Only two of the 6 teachers I had during my freshman year are still at my school, and I don't expect them to be there much longer. Overall, if the child applying to the school has another option as a school, choose that. This school is a school to go to only if you have no other choice.

I just want to say that New Media Tech is a good School, My daughter has excelled on so many levels since she has been there. She enjoys going and talks positive about her school which she has never did at any school she has been in. I like the communication level between the teachers & parents. All of the teachers also have degrees which you dont see all the time in Charter Schools. I'm sure the school recieved some of it's rating on being unorganized and so forth. Any institution just opening will have that until all of the querks are figured out. Don't be discourage by the ratings go see for yourself.

OMG! where do I start?! I am so glad I won't be spending my junior&senior year here. I wasted 2 years of my high school experience here. This school is like a middle school we do everything they do & now they are sharing the same building as if it's not small enough. The rooms that they show you during your tour, we dont even use, we're not even allowed on the gym floor. They are frauds! The highest technology we use is broke-run down computers whos internet cuts off constantly. We do nothing at all. Thinking of it now I can't remember anything I learned in that school. This is not even half of it. They "so called" prepare us for college. SIKE! This school is weak. Teachers argue in front of students & students do whatever they please & almost everyday after school students are always getting beat up by other schools and they do nothing and all we do is projects and thats basically our grade for the year. & when you try to transfer from this school they "so called" misplaced your child's paperwork. & Im so sick of that stupid circle they have us do every morning, telling us to say stuff when we don't know what they mean. To this day I am still so mad at my mom for sending me here!

The school has challenges, but with the new CEO and teaching staff the changes are improving the overall schools and its programs. A good example for this year would be the Senior Project. The Senior Project was designed to be compare to college level research (a mini-dissertation or thesis). Upon see this years project and comparing it to the last 3 years, I see the potential for what the future of the school will be (a very successful academically project base school similar to other successful project base school through-out the nation). This school has a strong middle school program and an improving high school program. 2010/2011 school year was hard tor this school but overall the students were challenged by the academic programs, and no teacher left during the school year.

I Attend Here And I Just Want To Say, Do Not Send Your Child Here Please, And Children, Dont Ask To Come. You Will Become So Lazy For There Is Lack Of Teachers, Space, Matterials And Education. Also Some Of The Teachers Discrimanate. 3 White Teahers Have Been Fired In The 10th Grade Alone For No Apparent Reason, And The Black Teachers Get Looked Down Upon By Some Of The White Teachers. I Just Had To Post This Before Some Parent Made The Mistake Of Sending Their Child To -New Media Charter High School!-

I discovered that the orientation for the middle school student was held at the high school location, which was very different from the middle school facility. It was like night and day. The high school is so nice and put together. The doors, floors, walls and the over-all is what a parent expects to view when a school tells you that they want the very best for their students. On the other hand. The middle school is almost the opposite of what I expected. The building is old and unrestored; chipped paint on the ceilings, old materials, shortage of books and activities. These are the matters that concern me a bit. There are heating, flood and teacher/student issues. This is my daughter's first year, and my expectations are on the low.

I have been at this school since 9th grade and i dont recommend this school for anyone to go to. The teachers drop like flys and there is no structure. We spend most of ou days running around and playing in the hall way it was fun in the begining but now it just got to the point that we want to learn. They have girls with very short skirts and boys with disrespectful language to the young girls. I strogly recommend your child to go to this school your child would not have a future if the came here and college would be out the question. This is from a students point of veiw

i am a 9th grade student and i think that this school is very unorganized. we dont have serious classes like pe instead we have african dance classes this is my first year and im already trying to leave its because we always have free periods and we always have time to roam around the buliding. this school doesnt have real security guards we only have 1 and the people that are trying to protect us are the staff , new media has a bigger building and they dont teach you things like business, culinary, fashion desgin etc. things that encourage you to be somthing when you get older. i would not recomend this school for anybody it needs lots of work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a student at New Media and I am in the 11th grade.. I have been to this school since 9 th grade and have seen 5 teachers all together leave in the middle of the year its ridiculous. We dont have any technology and the good teachers that we do have our leaving because they dont Get paid enough :( That saddens me because I built wonderful relationships with each of my teachers and after a while they just drop out.. I don't blame them though.. Out of 7 periods we are only having class in 4 of them the rest of the time we just hoarse around and play..Instead of finding us more classes the new Director of Education- Dr. Tomsen is to busy handing out detentions and peppermints and collecting earrings its not organized and it needs a change..quick

This is my sons second year at this school. I wish I had picked a different school but he is going to 11th grade next year and I am probably going to have to supplement his education by finding outside sources. It is not that they don't learn anything, because they do. It has more to do with the leadership or lack of leadership at the school. The school is very disorganized and seems to change rules and regulations each time adminstration changes. The school also only has one teacher per subject for each grade level, so if a teacher leaves or is absent then the students are left with no teacher for that subject. I do love the computer based learning because it does keep the kids engaged but I have yet to see my son with a text at home since they use handouts.

This school is absolutely awful. THere is no real concern for the children, their well being or general safety. Homework is sporadic at best and there are no books to speak of. The way some of the faculty carry themselves is totally innapropriate. This will be my childs last year at New Media and I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone

I love this school! My daughter is in the 8th grade and this is her 1st year at New Media. She came from the public school system and had some difficulty there with behavior learing in a class with 32 children. She has exceled in all subjects at New Media and I've seen her attitude change and her personality blossom. I would recommend it to any parent!

Before I sent my son to this school I read the reviews by previous parents. Unfortunately I didn't listen to you all and that was a bad decision. I have to agree with all of you. I dont know what my son is learning. He's been in school for three months and I have yet to see a test, books or homework. I thought because I saw the kids in uniform that the school was above standards. I cant wait until June. My son has to come out! No wonder he comes home everyday bragging that he likes the school. I guess I would too if I never got homework and anywork for that matter!

I think New Media is a disgrace. There is no consistency in this school. The work is a joke, my daughter hasn't learned anything all year. There is no communication with parents. I made a terrible choice sending my daughter to this school. This was her first and only year there. Please what ever you do, do not send your child here.

I am also very disappointed with New Media. It is not the kind of school that it was portrayed to be. The teachers come and go, there are hardly any extracurricular activities for the kids. I hardly see any homework my child has. When I call the school to leave a message for one of the teachers, my call doesn't get returned for weeks. The whole school is just very small(space-wise), very disorganized and very poorly run. I have just made a very bad choice when choosing this school.

new media tech charter school is a disappointment not just to my child but to me as a parent. My daughter is not recieving a proper education at the school. Teachers come and go, and the ones who are there are trying to be friends of the children not educators. My daughter rarely has homework and when she does it's regarding survey questions, tell me how she is going to be prepared for college. This school is not ran properly. I have been e-mailing and calling the school for a conference with my daughters teacher and no one ever replys. This is not a good school and the principle is not a good role model. Something needs to be done

My child has been attending New Media for three years now, and despite a slow start, I am impressed with where this school is going. They started an individualized learning plan for every student in the school and my son is getting more attention here than he has ever received in public school.
