Beautiful school and friendly from day one!!!! Jenna - Mom of 3 boys that Attend the school
Great teachers, beautiful new building. The administration needs to do a better job communicating with the parents.
I think 9th Street school has very good teachers that really care about the students. Mrs. Leach and Mrs. Raymond are the best examples of how great and positive elementary teachers can be. The office staff is also very cooperative and really cares about the students. Mr. Wood, the principal, is involved and has a very positive attitude. Only two issues came up all last year for my kids at 9th St. One was there was at least one maybe two kids 'mainstreamed' into my sons 4th grade class that couldn't do the class work and were disruptive all year. An the only other comments had to do with the cafeteria staff and lunch food. Both my kids can't wait to go back to school this fall, and thats saying a lot for 4th and 5th graders.
It's a wonderful school. Having 51% of the children on the reduce or free food program, has nothing to do with the quality of the school! Isn't the program Title 1 doing something about the reading? If they didn't care, there wouldn't be a program! You as a parent are your childs main teacher. You should make sure your child knows how to read and can count! Teachers are there to supplement what you have forgotten or don't know. As for bullies, there are many parents that are bullies. How does a school deal with their children?
I believe this is a wonderful school . My child started kindergarten this year and was below basic on most of the test that were given at the start of the school year. My child also was in title 1 reading, and now 4 1/2 months later is not only above basic but is advanced in most subjects. Both the kindergarten and title 1 teachers in my eyes are not only very intelligent people, but also wonderful by my child. I give this school a very high rating on every level. They are great with parent involvement. Which isn't always easy, seeing how a lot of parents aren't cooperative. I am very proud to have my child attend this school!
This elementary school does not take bullying or other aggressive actions by children seriously. The PTO has less then 15 members/parents who are involved in the PTO meetings. More then 50% of the children are enrolled in Title 1 (can't read!) The stats for free food or reduced food for children is 51% for the year 2003. What else would you like to know?
