We have been very pleased with the quality of education our two children have received in the Mt. Lebanon school district. The vast majority of the teachers and administrators have been outstanding. The few that did not quite meet the level of outstanding were at least competent. The poor spelling and writing skills of the two negative reviews lead me to question their credibility and authenticity.
All three of our children went through and graduated from the Mt. Lebanon school system. Having gone to a city school I was highly impressed with the qaulity of the education offered. My oldest went on to Princeton and told me that she was well prepared for it. My other children also recieved excellent educations with and although not top achievers turned out quite well. When one of my children was asked About how Mt. Lebanon compared to a highly regarded private school where she taught. She replied that Mt. Lebanon was much better and more progressive in more ways than you could imagine.
I am quite surprised by the two bitter reviews. I have to wonder if they're from Mt. Lebanon. In 1961 my parents moved to Mt. Lebanon because of the school district. I think it's amazing that the school district has maintained excellence all of this time. Mt. Lebanon students were top performers on the College Board SAT at the end of 2006. Of the 630 public schools in the state, Mt. Lebanon students posted a combined score of 1741 which ranks 4th in Pennsylvania and 1st in the county among public schools, catapulting Mt. Lebanon ahead of all public schools in Western Penna. In addition, the critical reading and math scores were the highest ever received by Mt. Lebanon students. It's always on national lists of best high schools and it was rated 8th in the country for fine arts. There are many more achievements but the limit is 150 words.
I graduated in 2006 and have many great memories at Mt. Lebanon. Most of my teachers were passionate and engaged. They prepared me well for college and life in general. The facilities aren't perfect, but the faculty and quality of education make up for it.
My son and daughter went through the school system, k-12. I always thought the schools were pretty darn good. After I relocated to Maryland, upon my younger child's graduation, I realized I was wrong. The Mount Lebanon Schools are great. The local high school, here in Maryland, is considered one of the best in the state and it doesn't come close.
This school is really quite poor. The building is old, the students are rude and disrespectful and the teaching is subpar.
Excellent college prep school, great academic range and achievement, great sports and facilities
I credit much of my success at my private liberal arts college with the educational foundation I received at Mt. Lebanon. It was the small, engaged classroom setting that encouraged me to pursue a smaller college, and I feel the frequent interaction I had with teachers and administrators made me more prepared to relate to adults academic or otherwise-- in a professional manner. The school makes a concerted effort to give its students a strong working knowledge of critical reading and writing; I consistently out-preformed my peers in my entry-level and freshman English classes and my experience in chemistry, biology, and physics labs made me feel comfortable in the college labs. Mt. Lebanon also offers a wealth of dance, music, art, and TV studio classes as well. The facilities are quite remarkable; I had access to a wealth of opportunities and was exposed to more than many of my college peers.
Moved here in 1991 start my child here in 1996 and my 2nd child in 2003. My frist child thought the adminastration was horrible along with the Principal which has now change whom is no better. The Superintendint for this district is horrible and the school board is even worse. The teachers most of them are great but there are few that are like the adminstration.
My children have received excellent attention and education at the high school. Opportunities abound for fine arts, intellectual and athletic pursuits. New administration is fabulous.
