Our daughter went to Wilkins for Pre-K and it was phenomenal. However, other than a teacher who tried to do as much as possible with the 'cards she was dealt', her Kindergarten experience was terrible. The principal is more of a tyrant than an educator. Too many students are disruptive. And the rules and regulations are not conducive to a successful learning environment. As a Woodland Hills alumnus, I am embarrassed by this school. Needless to say, she didn't go back to Wilkins for 1st Grade.
My son finished his 2nd grade school at Wilkins. We had a TERRIBLE experience there. He loves school and is very personalble. He has never had trouble making friends. But here he was physically bullied almost everyday. When I confronted the teacher and principal the first time they both assured me that it would be taken care of. Not true. The last time the situation occurred I went in to speak with the principal and she had the nerve to turn to my son (who had been hit, pushed and punched in the stomach) and asked him what he did to deserve it. Really? I immediately removed my son and went to PaCyber for third grade.
This is the first time my daughter will be going to Wilkins primary and i am very nervous about sending her i know i more nervous for her because she don't even care. I am so nervous because my little girl has autism in she doesn't talk much... so i will not know if something went wrong with her are she gets yelled at or even hit and hurt. maybe its just me being over protected with her.. it's just kinda scary to me just to think. what if they don't know how to take care of children with autism but they have to know right? other wise they wouldn't be teachers.
My son transferred from Edgewood to Wilkins Primary and I have never been treated worse at a school. My sons first day of school at Wilkins I got yelled at 3 times and was given attitude the whole time I was there. They give a bad first impression and I do not think my son will be staying there. They are very rude and mean.
My daughter just completed Pre-K at this school and it was phenomenal! The principal at this school runs a tight ship and cares very much about the education of the children that attend there. There is going to be a new program added called 'looping' which I've never heard of before, but it is going to be implemented here and it will be beneficial for the kids and the teachers....for example, a kindergarten teacher will follow his class to 1st grade and be their teacher. I'm looking forward to having my child participate in this. I think it will really build relationships with the children and parent-teacher relationships as well. GO WILKINS! for being willing to try something new.
The academics offered at Wilkins are on par with private schools in the area. The school is ran in a very effecient way and the principal goes above and beyond the call of duty. She makes every student feel as if they are special, because they are. As for parental involvement, I believe that it is not the school's ressponsibility to make someone a 'parent'. As a parent, you should have the desire to be involved in every aspect of your child's life. Wilkins is an awesome school and I am sad that my daughter is in her last there.
Quality of academic programs: Poor Availability of music, art, sports and other extracurricular activities: Moderate Level of parent involvement: Poor
