Have had two children attend Northgate Middle School. The teachers are dedicated to the success of the students. They offer advanced courses as well as before and afterschool tutoring. In the math department kids can choose any math teacher to tutor them, for free. This gives them access to a variety of teaching styles that can help them to grasp the information. The school has a very active concert and marching band program and just this year began an orchestra program. Northgate is a small school district and there is a lot of dedicated teachers in the middle school and high school. Anyone attending school with the right attitude who is going there to learn can be very successful.

I attended Northgate awhile back. I was never impress in the curriculum. Granted there are teachers there that actually did care about the students, the other teachers just brought down the system. I was in all the advance placement courses and honors, and to me they were a waste of time and did not prepare me for college.

Not thrilled with some of the teacher communication to parents or lack there of. School website not updated by some teachers promptly so that parents know where their child stands. There are some good teachers though.

Our school is close knit and the teachers really care about the students. Students can be freinds with kids from various cliques without repercussions.

I am a recent Northgate Graduate and it makes me sick how little faith parents have in Northgate School District. Northgate excides the state average in PSSA scores. In responding to the parent that complained about hygiene of students, it is not the schools responsiblity to teach hygiene that is something that is taught in the home. I got a wonderful education at Northgate, which is helping me to excel in college. Northgate is a wonderful school that provides it students with the best education, if the students are willing to learn!

To all those parents that are disappointed with the school, you apparently do not know what you are talking about. I am currently a senior at Northgate. I am in all honors classes. The reason I am in honors classes is because of the good education I am getting at this school. The parent that said we cannot compete with other schools in the area clearly cannot get his/her facts straight. Out of the PSSA scores from last year (2007-08 school year) we ranked well above most schools in the state. To all those that think we have a lack of education, you must be the parents that have kids that don't care about school and you are expecting the school to handle that problem because you are too lazy to discipline your child. The middle school offers plenty of extra corricular activities.I was involved in many of them.

The good the bad and the ugly. 7th and 8th graders should not be in the high school with 9-12th. We need a middle school! The kids are exposed to way too much too soon. The new principal is striving to improve discipline for students and accountabililty for teachers. It has been difficult. Many students who have been kicked out or drop out walk the streets all day. Security stinks. The bar is only raised for the few elite and they are still not prepared well enough for college. Parents have to fight for everything. There is a lack of extracurricular activites for MS, so they are lost until 9th grade. Many of the teachers are excellent, others don't give homework because they don't expect the kids to do it. Constant discipline issues. Elementary schools are great, HS mediocre at best. We're out of here.

Our child enjoyed this school because she became involved in the honor classes and joined band. The teachers she had challenged her to strive for more. I noticed there is a lack of discipline overall. The Arts program is wonderful at this school and they focus on having fun and enjoy learning. They are not strict about doing everything perfectly right.

Northgate MS/HS is wonderful. Most of the teachers are really great and the guidance counselors and office staff are the best. My child attended Northgate schools since the third grade and she just loved this school.
