Fox Chapel Country Day is an incredible school. The classes are often small enough that the curriculum is tailored to each student in Math and English. The teacher/student ration is the best I've found at any private school in the Pittsburgh area. Small enough for individual attention, but large enough that the children have a nice-sized class, typically 10-15 children. The Head of School and Assistant Head of School are visionary people with literally decades of experience working with children of all ages. It would be great if FCCDS went through 8th grade. This is probably the biggest critique I have heard from families who attend. However, children from Country Day easily move on to Shadyside, Winchester, or public schools. They have a record of getting into their first choice schools. When you visit Country Day, you will feel the magic! It's precious.
Country Day is a wonderfully warm and happy place for a child to learn, explore and grow. I have two children at the school and they have had a terrific experience. The leadership is exceptional. The teachers are great. The parents are actively involved. All these things help create a strong sense of community and caring for others.
Country Day is a wonderful environment in so many ways! The setting of the school is a beautiful wooded campus that includes nature trails and outdoor classroom. The inside environment is just as peaceful with an atmosphere that is warm and welcoming for every child. This is truly a place where each child is given individualized attention due to the small class sizes and top notch teachers. I'm sure if you visit the school, you will immediately feel at home in this warm community!
Unmatched overall environment for both academic achievement and personal growth with an emphasis on the arts, a rare combination. If you are fortunate enough to visit or take a tour, you will send your children here there is no doubt. My children are learning more because they are taught and understand that learning is fun and interesting and something they choose to do rather than something they have to do. I wish I could go back in time so that I to could go to school here, it is that rewarding.
This school is a hidden gem. The teachers are top notch and hard working. The children run and play within the acres of woods that surround the school and are happier than I have ever seen. The academics are rigorous yet enriched with many developmental activities which develop the child as a whole person. They also focus on the Arts with whole class staged productions yearly. My children come home happy and eagerly awake to go to school. I would recommend this school very highly.
Excellent teachers and academic environment. There is a strong emphasis on academics within a caring and nurturing environment. My child is very strong academically as a result of the teachers and small class sizes. My child is reading several levels above grade level and is very stong in math and science. The math specialist and curriculum is exceptional. Homework is daily along with longer projects which require the children to manage their time both at school and at home. Not only do the children gain a strong academic foundation, but they also gain a great deal of creativity and confidence through the arts. I am amazed at the fact that every child at the school gains the confidence to be able to perform, sing, or speak in front of a large audience. Country Day creates a love of learning through a nurturing, caring and academically sound environment .
My child has been a student at Country Day for two years and it has been a very positive experience for both my child and me. The teachers are kind, caring and exceptionally qualified and they strive to treat each child as an individual letting them achieve at their own pace. I highly recommend visiting with the Head of School and taking a tour of the facility. It is a great place for children to learn.
Nice teachers. Core subjects are taught in a gentle, noncompetitive manner. Probably more arts than other schools. Homework is very minimal. My biggest concern is that the school ends after 5th grade and unless a parent can find a school using similar methods for 6th grade and beyond, the students have a big transition to make in terms of functioning in a more traditional structure and competing with other students that have experienced more emphasis on academics.
FCCDS has an exceptional faculty and solid leadership. The institutional knowldege that's made this a special place for so many years is being shared with many new teachers that are brilliant and so caring. They will certainly continue the legacy that's been the mainstay of this community for so long. Our children have grown to be such bright, energetic, and polite kids. They will certainly be prepared for the challenges of middleshoool. I highly recomment visiting with the head of school and the faculty. They've established a solid foundation and philosophy that's backed by all faculty and the parents. It's a wonderful setting for children to discover that childhood is a journey, not a race.
I am amazed at the level of academic achievement that my children are receiving. What they have done over the past half year, and what is still being implemented, has benefited my children immensely. Yet, the foundation of making education a journey rather than a race is as solid as ever. A true secret this school ceratinly is.
