GCS is such a wonderful addition to Schuylkill County. Their approach to learning-emphasizing on developing a student's LOVE of lifetime learning-is, in my opinion, one of the most important and powerful things to instill in a child. This is also a place where individuals matter and each person in the GCS community (students, staff, parents) brings and contributes his or her own strengths and abilities. Teaching conversational Spanish beginning in K is so impressive to me. I have witnessed first hand how much my two sons are learning in just a few short mo! Other pros-getting OUTDOORS, sm classes, Right Start math, flouishing music and art, freq field studies, community involvement and responsibility to become active and productive citizens. Also, peer mentoring (older students teaching younger students, etc) As with all new schools, there are still "kinks," but these continue to work themselves out and certainly are nothing that would ever prevent my children from attending there. There have been great improvements in the 3 years since they have opened and as a parent it is nice to see how they value input to make these improvements.

Gillingham Charter School in the best school around in the schulykill county area. Everyone whom is employee as well give the time to the children at Gilingham Charter School cares for each child in the school, this school really doesn't leave any chlild behind. Children who attend Gillingham Charter School love learning there, for this school is where Children are never wrong with there answer for everyone things differently so I believe children who attend Gillingham Charter School feel more comfortable raises their hand to answer question as well reading in the class room. For no one is tease or pick on at this school and it the way all school should be. You can tell children who attend Gillingham Charter School for they are stand tall and feel good about themselve, for Gillingham Charter School make sure every children there is learning, teaches them to feel good about themself, for everyone learn differently so do not worry so walk with you head up. Every child their is leaning in their on way for the teacher at this school make sure of this. So thay why I am so proud of the school for i saw a differentl is just one week with my son and he love it there.

GILLINGHAM CHARTER SCHOOL IS THE BEST SCHOOL BECAUSE THE TEACHERS AND STAFF MAKE TIME TO LISTEN TO THE STUDENTS AND HELP THEM ANY WAY THEY CAN. THEY COULD USE MORE FUNDING BY THE STATE DUE TO THEM PUTTING IN ALOT OF HARD WORK TO MAKE IT THE BEST. EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW THAT EVERYONE AT THIS SCHOOL IS VERY NICE AND STUDENTS HELP EACH OTHER AND GET ALONG VERY WELL. ALSO THE SCHOOL PREPARES THE STUDENTS FOR RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE REAL WORLD BY HAVING THEM DO CHORES AND LEARNING LIFE SKILLS. THEY ALSO TEACH THEM THE SECOND LANGUAGE IN THIS COUNTRY WHICH IS SPANISH. WHICH I THINK IS GREAT!!!

Gillingham Charter School is Pottsville's first charter school. It has a great way of teaching. My kids say that it doesn't feel like regular school, it feels like home. Their subjects all interconnect, and the learning is driven by reading books instead of memorizing text books. They have taken archery, basketball, soccer, recited in public, been in a play, are learning musical instruments for FREE, participated in Spirit Team, write poetry and stories. All of the students spend time outside, everyday. I can't say enough about the variety of subjects, and the quality of what they're learning. The school is only in it's second year, so there are things that need to be improved, of course. The test scores don't reflect what is going on in the classrooms...yet. There is some teacher turnover and I think they are working on it. It's a very different kind of methodology. Not everyone (parents & students included) gets it, but for those who do, it is really life changing. My kids never participated in after school activities in PASD schools. Now, they're both very involved. I hope it lasts, I really want my kids to graduate from Gillingham!
